Members kayd_mon
Porcupine Tree's Octane Twisted came out this year, and it's good. Honestly, I wasn't impressed by many albums this year, but I also was broke this year and couldn't buy many. I borrowed a few, but they were only ok. Members soundcreation
I'm suddenly realizing how little I paid attention to music this year. Even so I friggin LOVED the new Van Halen record. It got the most play of anything I've listened to in a LONG time.

Dinosaur Jr. - I Bet On Sky 10. Two Gallants - The Bloom and the Blight The artists left in your quote are the only ones I've heard of. My favorites this year: The Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten Arliss Nancy - Simple Machines The Bouncing Souls - Comet The Jealous Sound - A Gentle Reminder That's all I can think of off hand for 2012. I've been waxing nostalgic for the '90s more than enjoying new music this past year. That's kind of strange, because I didn't care all that much for it when it was released. I was going back and listening back to a lot of the bands I ignored in the 90's/early 00's. Gotta say that the new Wallflowers, Soundgarden, and Dinosaur Jr. are all great albums from "90's" bands this year. I haven't checked out the Green Day albums yet. I'm surprised you've heard of Two Gallants. They've been around a little while now, but they're pretty obscure. They played here last week in a small all-ages club. I definitely recommend checking out Japandroids. Great, straight up rock songs.

Members valued customer
Field Music: PlumbChuck Prophet and The Mission Express: Temple BeautifulRufus Wainwright - Out of The GameDb's: Falling Off The Skyit was released in September, 2011, but I probably listened to this more than anything:Jonathan Wilson: Gentle Spirit ... amazing record with brilliant songs, production, singing, and guitar playing. A record that stands with the best California-sensimilla rock you remember from your yout -- like Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere, GP, Notorious Byrd Brothers, Gene Clark's solo lp's. Impeccable stuff.

Members bubkus_jones
Van Halen and Rush are the main ones from this year. Not anywhere near as "current" with music as I used to be.

I've heard them referred to as a "punk rock Wallflowers" and it kind of fits -- in a good way. As for Two Gallants, maybe I haven't heard of them but the name just sounds somewhat familiar. Not sure why... Also, one of my favorite artists, Dave Hause recommends Japandroids as well for a 2012 pick, so I'll have to check them out. I think I'll have to take a trip to the record store today.
