Moderators ThudMaker Posted May 26, 2009 Moderators Share Posted May 26, 2009 One liberal is resigning and this one is going to get confirmed. It won't change the make-up of SCOTUS much at all, if any, IMHO.

Members J.
No. She's on the wrong side of the current New Haven firefighter case, which is inexcusable in my opinion. Here's some (admittedly right wing sourced) info:

Moderators Kindness Posted May 26, 2009 Moderators Share Posted May 26, 2009 Setting aside any judgment on whether there should or should not be one, I expect there isn't much a fight will accomplish in this case.
Members dionysusolympus
Obama's pick for USSC is Sonia Sotomayor. Is this good? For Obama, I think, he finally gets a Hispanic section of the vote, which was what he intended with Bill Richardson in the past. That's my two-cents on the subject. Members chris-dax
In my opinion Obama would have been better served by nominating an actual jurist. I'm guessing she will get Gen. Powell's strong endorsement.
Members lug
As good as can be expected. Actually closer to middle-of-the-road than I would have guessed. Certainly can't bash her on qualifications, which is what the Senate's job should be.

Members chris-dax
Certainly can't bash her on qualifications... Would you consider her record of decisions reviewed by the Supreme Court a qualification....? Sotomayor Cases Reviewed by the Supreme Court Note: this is NOT a selection of cases. This is the totality of her decisions reviewed by SCOTUS. The only time she was affirmed was with a caveat unanimously rejecting her reasoning.
