Haters? Seriously...you are the one who came in here with the rant...and when we looked at the materials you presented.... Who said anything about genres? Genres are indeed unimportant... a professional level performance is what matters. well, anyway, look....if you are gigging, keep at it...if you think that you should be getting the gigs that the people you saw recently got, well...go for it. Three different acoustic acts that made me think "I could do better than that." My wife even said so, and she never says anything nice about me. Then I got home last week to play at a wedding reception on a pool side tiki bar. There was a guy playing there already, and he was WAYYY better than me. Moderators daddymack Posted April 20, 2012 Moderators Share Posted April 20, 2012 See, but there's the thing...I think each of us has that little insecurity thing when you hear someone else do the same thing you do, and do it well...we immediately think, 'gee, that sounded better than I do...' and it may be true, or in some cases, it may actually not be. A few months back I did an 'accompanist gig' (as a duo) with a guy I've known for years (from HC). Some of the material was simple, some challenging, and I thought I was being merely competent, but certainly not running away with it...yet I received a very positive mention in the review of the show. So you just never know. And on the other side of the coin, it is really simple to say someone sux...but without facing the same challenges/situation, it is hard to say that definitively everytime...who knows, the guy's mother may have died that morning, his car may have been stolen...there are plenty of things that would tend to rattle even a top notch performer under certain circumstances. Okay, true, there are people out there doing shows who really have more guts than skill, who really have no entertainment value...yet, someone gave them the gig, right?
