Ok but wait--is he a secret socialist? because if we're actually to take this literally it'd mean we'd have a completely different form of government right now, and we don't. we have the same government we've had as long as this country has existed. just going through some financial twists and turns. I guess this is where we get into "FDR was a socialist too!" territory, which is where I stop arguing and come back to reality, the actual truthful historic reality where FDR did the nation more good than perhaps any other president of his century. If Obama were advocating socialism, he would be proposing that the government own all industry and capital. In fact, I haven't heard him propose that the government own any industries and he's, in fact, arguing against a lot of experts who believe that socializing the banks would be for the best, so... Also, if anyone cites taxes as their reason, they must have forgotten the way taxes were only one presidency ago or have been ok with having lived in a socialist country back in the 90s. So, isn't it safe to say our country was already headed towards Socialism? One more thing, what about failing companies being allowed to merge? Isn't that technically Socialism? Yeah, about as soon as hell froze over. What we're dealing with means actions need to be taken--if its some governmental intervention to help stop a total collapse of the world's economy, well, you gotta do what you gotta do. Its not socialism and its dishonest to call it that--these are a set of circumstances which call for very specific actions.
