Members matterday
I'm trying to figure out which preamp tube is giving me trouble and I want to swap a good one in and out one by one. My question is, do I have to completely turn off the amp or can I put the amp on standby then take the tube out and swap in another one?

Members matterday
Just to get it out of the way - I already tried to stick it in my butt. Still doesn't fit and didn't result in the brown sound.

Members ninjaaron
I've messed around with pre-amp tubes in amps that were on (standby), and I never had a problem. Pre tubes do get a little hot, but it's nothing compared to power tubes. I was able to take them out with my bare hands, no problem.
Members matterday
It's not going to take long so I don't have to worry about it getting hot. All I'm doing is turning the amp on and seeing if there is any unwanted noise, if there still is then I turn it off and swap in another tube. Members SharkMinusBear
you don't have to turn it off actually, but standby is a safe bet. I've swapped preamp tubes with the amp on all the time.
