Members echodeluxe
. . . nor does it get any more costly Victoria's 5E3 'clone' is a whopping $1990.00 before tax. Nick Greer's 5E3 'clone' is almost half of that, for the exact same quality product ! http://www.greeramps.com/amps.html - Underdog . . . and he has the Underdog Mod1, a Hot Rodded 5E3 if the regular 5E3 ciruit is too tame for you Mod-1 Information" A louder, higher gain version of the Underdog "True 59". It even has more cleans. The Underdog "Mod-1" is based on the same circuit as the Underdog "True 59" but with an evil twist hat will take the old 5E3 style circuit to the next level. This circuit provides the same tube warmth as the Underdog "True 59" but gives an extra kick, moving the UD15 "Mod-1" into more of a harder distortion area as well as giving the player higher, more giggable volume. The "Mod-1" 1-12" combo comes standard with a Celestion G12H30 speaker and a kick in the pants for a mixture of both American and British sounds. Players can easily go from 50's rock and blues sounds, to the sounds of the 60's and 70's Brit rock. This amp is a workhorse. " that greer thunderchief looks effing hot. Members Kap'n
. . . nor does it get any more costly Sure it does. Buy a FMIC handwired product. That stuff is off the charts stupid priced - and ugly with all that chassis venting and stuff they put in there to meet modern electrical codesVictoria is one of the few tweed clones that keep their value. Everybody and their brother makes tweed clones these days. Hell, I've built about a dozen or so.Not saying Nick's amps aren't great, but I suspect resale is probably pretty low. Members RoboPimp
different, and in some ways better, which is why I have one of those too. but the fender tone just isn't about "glassy cleans" is all. Sure it has incredible clean tones but it gets nasty too.
Members Parah Salin
A cranked Fender can get pretty raunchy but for what it does I'd rather have a Marshall over it. I wouldn't kick a cranked Fender out of bed though. I do love my Shiva, Fender cleans and a Marshall OD channel.

Members Kap'n
I read from Guitar World that Silverchair's debut album's all dirt sounds came from a Fender Amp. =) If tha't true, it wasn't a 'classic' Fender amp like a tweed or a blackface. Probably something post-CBS, which is as far from classic Fender as boogie or marshall.

Bringing my drumset out there too.If it's a silverface, don't expect it to be much louder. Fender started using these horrible taper pots in the mid 70's that made the volume jump at around 2. When you got to three, you would actually be close to what seven or so would be on a normal pot.The result of the volume wars back in the day - "my amp on three kicks the ass of your amp on five." Members erksin
Did Joe Walsh play through cranked fenders? That clip Robo put up reminded me of funk 49 or whatever that song was. I have an old GP mag somewhere with a great interview with Joe from the early '90s. He says that he used Fender amps whenever he played Gibson guitars, and used Voxes with his Fender guitars. And is a big believer in getting combo amps up off the floor so you can lets the cabs resonate.

Damn those amps were sounding tasty. I think Mike has always used modified Bassmans. I did see him at Tone Merchants last time I was there scoping out other amps. The other dude uses Satellite Amps which is a local builder here in San Diego. I was having amp trouble and posted a thread over at TGP and he told me to bring it by his shop so he can have a look. Super nice dude that makes super nice amps.

Members skipstar59
I have a 66 Bassman on it's way to me. It will be modded to have a Tweed/JTM45 circuit on the Bass side. I'll report back with my findings! I've got a '66 Allen/Master volume modded Bassman head. I've also got just about every Fender combo amp ever made, and I've yet to get the type of KILLER singing overdrive I get out of this amp. Here's are some clips of the Bassman in action.'66 Bassman Head:http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=633883&songID=5889872http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=633883&songID=5803803http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=633883&songID=5736046 '73 Vibro Champ Natural overdrive:http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=633883&songID=5790437http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=633883&songID=5749483'66 Princeton Reverb Natural overdrive:http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=633883&songID=5085428
