Had sinus surgery on Wed...

I'm glad it's over, but the recovery is lame. I can only breath through my mouth, and my face is swollen like a fat dude in a sauna.

But, this needed to happen. My sinuses have been clogged for years, and I've been suffering through relentless postnasal drip. It's just been killing my singing voice.

So I'm glad it's been taken care of, but the next few weeks aren't going to be so great!

Anyone else had sinus surgery here?

I might have to do that this year or the next.
I'll be 22 in April, and for the last 5 years or so I've had gradually increasing problems with clogged sinuses. It's a liability, because I never know when I'll get a cold. This autumn I was sick with a cold like 5 times in 8 weeks. After that, my doc gave me a cortisone nose-spray that has helped out a little..

I went to see an Ear/Nose/Throat specialist on Friday.

Turns out I have a deviated septum and massively oversized turbinits (I actually have no idea how to spell that word).

They also did a CT scan on my sinuses. Fortunately those a clear, but I'll still be going under the knife with a general to re-align my septum and reduce the size of the turbinits.

Ben Allison, hope you have a swift recovery. No doubt life will be a million times better once you have.

Thanks for the wishes guise!

Yeah, I was getting chronic sinus infections. The past year, it's basically been one long sinus infection. Horrible existence.

I'm looking forward to the relief that will come with this surgery! It was pretty simple, it's just the recovery that's a bitch: you feel completely clogged, for like 2 weeks. You can't blow your nose. It's no fun. But let's hope it'll be worth it!

i had to have 3 throat ops between 18 months and 36 months ago, i had a tumor thing in my thoat that was a pain, luckily the managed to get it out without no scars, it was done all internally, but it messed up my voice. they knew i was in a band after the first 2 ops, i still sing though, doesnt sound great, but i play guitar mainly, so its just a home hobby singing is.

hope you get well soon ben, all the best :thu:

Polyps removed and a deviated septum straightened out... when I woke up, it felt (and looked) like someone had hit me in the nose with a baseball bat. :freak:

I feel your pain... it's definitely not fun, but it IS worth it - you should be able to breathe a lot better once the recovery is over.

Oh, two more things: When they told you not to lift anything heavy for a couple of weeks? You should definitely listen to them about that. I ignored them, lifted some heavy cabs a few days after surgery, and wound up with a hematoma and they had to do half the work all over again. It's bad enough going through it once, but twice is something you should try to avoid. ;)

Second - did they pack you with gauze? If so... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but when they pull it out, it's really not much fun at all. You'll see... :(

Hope you have a uneventful recovery and that everything works out.

PS No coke use involved on my part (I was born with a messed up septum), although they did use it on me in the operations, making me one of the few people I know who's had coke legally.

The surgeon was a little too "excited" when he was describing that part of the procedure to me in advance... I was thinking "like, dude... maybe you should lay off your own pharmaceuticals... "

I too had a deviated septum. Phil touched on the reason I am posting. Wait until they take the packing out. Glad to know you are doing okay and you'll be pleased with the results functionally in a few months.
