ok.

what are his other projects

Have a Nice Life ("doomed-out new wave and shoegaze, Swans meets My Bloody Valentine meets Joy Division") and Nahvalr ("blackened, evil, experimental noise created from dozens of contributions; open-sourced black metal")

Title says it all.

The Airborne Toxic Event have some pretty depressing lyrics but are a great band.

Dan Mangan can be a bit depressing

Without a doubt the most depressing band is Red House Painters.

Edit: mhuxtable, Sun Kil Moon was basically on uppers compared to RHP. I do love Mark Kozelek's creativity in both bands though. Simple writing style but beautiful or haunting lines that phase in and out throughout the songs.

I'm seeing a distinct lack of American Football or The Hated in this thread. Both of them redefined depressing music as we know it.

if you haven't noticed yet, I'm very into 1980s/90s emo.

This movement is especially recommended, but the whole symphony is a wonderful piece of nihilistic expression.

To me, this music is a perfect summation of "reality". I'm not sure what that means though. It's still wonderfully melancholic.

Burial really is one of the greatest artists to express this emotion perfectly.
