Members misterstomach
sisters of mercy- first last and always. how has this not been mentioned yet? leonard cohen. the old good stuff, like on "the very best of...", not the bad stuff that started in the 80's. townes van zandt. check out any album and you'll get pretty bummed. watch the documentary about him, "be here to love me" and you'll surely cry yourself to sleep. burzum- filosofem, if you can hang with some really grim black metal. {censored}'s dark. nortt- gudsforladt. really any of his albums will do. it's really dark, really slow blackened funeral doom, which isn't for everyone, but you will be hard pressed to find more depressing music. stevie nicks. may seem like an odd suggestion to some, but check out her stuff with fleetwood mac and a bunch of her solo albums. a lot of it is really good depressing music. the mountain goats. dude has a lot of really funny songs, but a lot of really big downers too. if you don't know him, start with the tallahassee album. his more recent stuff is more consistently dark. the sunset tree is also an incredible album for that kind of mood. jawbreaker- 24 hour revenge therapy. {censored}ing sad {censored}. gotta go through the whole album though. that's a start. all i listen to is dark depressing music or really angry music so i could go on forever. but these are some real gems i haven't seen in the thread yet. edit: i see someone posted leonard cohen while i was typing this. that album rules. Members big69
^^great recommendations up (or back) there^^ I usually just put on the unplugged AIC dvd, Layne looks like a ghoul and it bums me out. Some John Frusciante songs gut me, too.

Members imbuedblue
Great song. And yes, it is extremely uplifting. I've always hated the use of the word "depressing" to describe music because there's always something uplifting about it or it wouldn't have been written, arranged, and recorded. I don't know. Anyway, here are some of my picks:[video=youtube;p-4jTbrLtUk] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHqYijkjsP4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp8BVO7z_38http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSJcaZ60SYI

Members Pine Apple Slim
Besides Nebraska, Ghost of Tom Joad and Devils and Dust are some of Bruce's darkest overall. I cant really put my finger on why it effects me so, but when I really want to wallow in melancholia, I always dig this out
