Members DyeMusica
Ive prolly broke 5 strings total in 15 years of playing... Pretty rare.. But I use 11s on LPs so I guess I dont really do alot of bending, or serious tremlos obviously.
Members thenakedarab
I don't give them a chance to break, the first hint wear and they are gone. Mainly because i'm still searching for the perfect set. I do like the DR pure blues I have on now My favorite strings I've ever used for electric. Members Mesa/Kramer
For you guys that have only broken a few strings over 15-30 yrs, do you even bother bringing a backup guitar to a gig?
Members Marc Roy
I haven't broken a string in years. I just use regular 10-46 tuned standard. I don't really beat up on my guitar, and my strings get changed when they start to corrode (which, when I'm playing regularly, is every 2 weeks or so). Members pink freud
i have never broken a string on my steinberger. thats the only guitar that it hasn't happened on.
Members shredbadtone
Sometimes I won't bring two guitars, especially if my strings have been on for more then a few days, then they are at least broken in some and don't fall out of tune. My Epiphone is such a different beast from my Gibson and the Epiphone sounds more metal so I don't really play it as much.
Members Rock_and_roll
It used to happen to me a fair amount, but it just doesn't anymore (maybe because I don't use 50p coins as picks now )
Members EdgeOfDarkness
Maybe once a year, and by then the strings are so old they need changed anyhow. I do not have a lot of acidity in my sweat like some guys I know, I know this one dude that can rust up strings after one gig.
Members petelaramee
I've broke less than 10 in my life (I'm 39 and been playing .009s for over 25 years). Only once onstage, which was a fluke, and fortunately it was the very last note of the solo and the 1 minute it took me to switch guitars was all keys and bass anyway. Members Edmond Zedo
I've had some GHS light boomers on a guitar for years, and I don't break the ones on the guitar that I play either. Tortex Orange
Members Exocaster
I think we should also add what size picks are being used to make this a fair comparison. Half the time I'm using 1.5 mm, other half 2.0 mm. Usually I use Dunlop Big Stubbies, 2mm or 3mm, depending on my mood. Sometimes I'll use Dunlop Nylon 1mms for recording when I want a brighter tone or less thump, usually for clean stuff. I use the trem on my Strat very little, usually when I'm doing David Gilmour type stuff, otherwise not at all. I usually go back and forth between the Strat and my EC1000, which is a hardtail, of course. Pretty much no whammy action for me; it's just not part of my style. I use 12-56s tuned to Eb on the acoustic, with the 2mm pick almost exclusively, and I don't break strings on there, either. I don't think I've ever broken an acoustic string, and I use just as much bending and vibrato (where applicable) and pick just as hard on acoustic as I do on electric. Members C-4
It is exceptionally rare that I break strings, but I change them every two jobs, and we work every weekend and sometimes three nights a week.
Members Voltaire
I play 9's and 8's.. though I'm planning on switching over to 10's. I never break strings, pick gauge is whatever fender heavy is. And when I say I never break strings.. I mean NEVER..never in my entire career of guitar playing have I ever broken a string. though I do change them every 6 months. I use EB slinkies/super slinkies//whatever is cheapest at the store.though I plan on trying out those webstrings.com strings.
Members BORR4
I've been playing since I was 12 (I'm 38 now) and I have broken a grand total of 4 strings in my entire life. It has happened so few times that I actually remember every single time too. I always thought it was strange when people say that they break strings all the time. I'm kind of heavy handed too. I used 10's when I was younger and I have been using 11's for a long time now - maybe thats why??? I have no idea.
Members Voltaire
I've been to a show where.. this one guy broke seriously 4 strings in 3 minutes, luckily it was only during rehearsal, but WOW! 4 strings? and then his strap broke. So maybe it was just him having a bad day.. but mang. I'd hate to be breaking strings//crap left and right.

Members diapsalmata
I think i've broken more strings on my bass, playing {censored}ty punk songs, than on any of my guitars. The Tele has 9's, and the SG has 10's, i've yet to break a string on either of them.
Members lovED
I play 9s with a Clayton .63mm pick. My strat is in standard tuning. My wraparound guitar is in Dropped C. I break more strings on the strat. lovED

Members ScottyGibson
I can't remember the last time I broke a string playing - maybe 1987. The last string I broke was because I kicked it during setup.
