Members FearMeWithMyLP
I live in an apartment. ALL amps are too loud for me to crank - this goes for 5 - 100 watts. I just buy amps depending on how they handle on playing with others and will buy an attenuator for the home. Which is why I am looking at a Mesa Tremoverb!! Members abecon5
its true that a 150 watt amp is louder than a 5 watt amp, but you honestly wont even notice the difference. The reall difference bettween wattage is the bottom end and punch you get from the amp. so it really depends what kind of music you play??? the best advice was givin to you by Alchemist --- go with what sounds best to you! Members JonathanD
+1I would add that any "concert" (including a club) should ideally have a PA system, not just the "big park" to "stadium." You could play any venue with a 5 watt amp (ex. Champ) if you have the PA.Until you become a "rock star" and start playing stadiums, you should be fine with a 15-30 watt tube amp for bar/club gigs, with generally more wattage if you want a cleaner sound (more headroom). yeah, +1 on using a PA for any sort of gig (except a small club of coffee shop type deal). Members Cougar Hunter
I just use whatever is overkill, so I know I'm covered. WIth a rack rig, you can always turn down to a reasonable volume, and still sound saturated.

Members bluesboy
And, Is it dangerous for your ears to use a 30,50 or 100 watts amp to practice in bedroom? no, as long as you play them quietly, at low volume. however, just about ANY amp can hurt your hearing if you crank it, granted a 100 watt halfstack cranked will hurt your ears faster than a 10 watt combo
Members kdp86
I think 30-50 watts is perfect for most situations. The 50 won't have quite the thump on bottom of a 100 watter, but lots of big thick tone has come out of them. I choose 30 watts, because it's bedroom friendly (especially Oranges because of their better than average master volumes) and big enough to play any size venue in the world. All you have to be able to do is get a good tone that has decent volume, not huge volume, and the buy a good microphone if you're picky like me, and go through the house. It's what everyone does and has done for the last 30 years.
Members tlbonehead
For the first two, under 5 watts. For the rest, 10-50 watts should work fine.
