Members joel3000
Its a tie:Sex PistolsBlack FlagI Love Paul Gilbert, but lets face it, he really doesnt have a great tone. Recently saw a Greg Ginn play with the Texas Corrugators. His tone was aggressively bad, like he set out to make the worst guitar tone possible. Kind of sounded like a an unamplified electric playing through an amp, but with all the life sucked out of it. His playing was equally bad. Some of his Black Flag stuff was really cool, but I've always wondered about how seriously he actually takes his playing. It's a fine line between genius and idiocy. Members rushtallica
Pantera, though the sound obviously worked for Dime & co., Ginn w/ Black Flag, earlier Lamb of God, early Flotsam and Jetsam, Coroner's tone on RIP, Jethro Tull, and many oldschool punk bands. If I could give a vote for bad vocal tone on a disc I otherwise love, it would have to be the excessively 'verbed vocals on Trouble's Psalm 23. Members rushtallica
Actually, I don't think so. I even prefer the early Iommi sounds you don't like. IMO, the Tull tone is thin and lame, almost like the sound I got when using an old record player/8-track stereo as an amp, though I love the music. Members HRM
Honestly? Guns n' Roses. I love Slash and G&R, but I never understood why people always went on and on about his tone and how bad-ass it was.

Members rushtallica
Their live tone sounds bigger and more lively than the recorded tone, IMO. But the stereo did have a Ross distortion to boost it though I normally used that setup with an old boombox/cassette deck running into the mic-in jack. Members chrispsullivan
I kind of have a soft spot for a lot of those tones. Lithium, Milk it, Drain You. I like those tones even though I'd probably never want them. i think it sounds like ass, but i woudnt have it any other way:thu:
Members OverDriven
Certain Sublime songs have pretty bad tone (not all of them though). I frickin love it though...wouldn't sound as good with perfect tone.

Members andy43
I think Pantera takes the cake on this one. Mastodon always sounded pretty awful to me also.

Members -todgemistro-
Jack Whites tone is considered bad by lots of people but I love it - its so raw and dirty sounding, fits the music perfectly I love really thick fuzzy sounds as well like Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
