By collector/quirky do you mean like a 66 Rambler? I have the silvertone guitar (somewhere) & the neck is actually ok for what it is. But it is not solidly built so the tuning is not stable and the tone is poor. So you really would never actually play it. The guitar basically adds nothing to the deal. For 7 bills you could find a good vintage off-brand amp that you'd actually use and would sound great.

Members extollo
$99 new in 1964http://silvertoneworld.net/amplifiers/1457/1457.html this site has asking prices of 800-1000. I'm tellin you though. You'd play it for 5 mins & then stick it in a closet. If you're a collector I suppose its a bit cheaper than a 64 strat

Let's say they sell for 600. That's 600% profit. I don't give a {censored} if it sounds like dick, and it doesn't play like a custom shop guitar. People buy things for their quirky nature and collectability.
Members Sixtonoize
What cost $99 in 1964 would cost $655.30 in 2007.http://www.westegg.com/inflation/So, you've effectively made a net loss of $60 once inflation is factored in.Now, the numbers chance if you're selling them for $700 or $800...or $1500 like this guy:http://kansascity.craigslist.org/msg/1073272544.htmlDude, if you want it because you think it's cool...go ahead.Just don't try to justify it as an investment.
