By whom? Why?

I don't know, there seems to be some Iphone hate 'round here.

I'm totally happy with mine.

I was originally gonna get a Tilt, but the guy at the ATT store said they get ALOT of returns on it and pushed me towards the Iphone.

I prefer the interface by a longshot compared to other smartphones I've played with.

That said, there are some common, well publicized gripes about the Iphone, but if they don't effect you much, then there is no reason not to get one.

My only gripe with the iphone is if you really hammer it for a couple of hours of going between a call, to a text, to mail, to internet to running a couple of apps and do that over and over for an hour is it gets slow until you let it sit and rest. I don't know why, it also gets hot.

The other gripe of no video camera doesn't bother me at all.

love my 3g. depending on what the day has in store for me, I may be working at my normal office, or remotely at another, so having access to {censored} is super important. Checking email, surfing teh net, texting, calling, useful apps, fun games while on the {censored}ter... seriously the iphone is awesome.

Mine will get slow occasionally, but nothing that shuts me down.

Mine never gets hot though:idk:

I would love not to have to deal with Itunes though.

I was in the same position with the same phone. Get the iphone, you'll get used to the touchscreen after a while and it's infinitely more useful than a blackberry unless you do nothing but check email

Also, having a nice thin iphone is amazing after carrying around the htc for so long, it was like having a brick in my pocket

Yeah the HTC is a brick. The touchscreen is losing sensitivity, it's interface is a bit buggy right now, and it seems to not be connecting on a lot of calls. Half the time I call it's muted and I can't hear {censored} and I have to make 2-3 calls to get sound. Also, the "t" key isn't working great and I always hit those soft-select keys on the keyboard by mistake.

But, I'm extremely apprehensive about not having a physical keyboard. Good Gmail and Google Calendar support means a lot to me.

Gmail and google calendars sync better with the iphone than any other smart phone i've used.

With gmail, you get access to all of your folders, right in the mail app - very handy. The calendar also looks very slick, is useful and easy to operate, and as mentioned, is very well integrated.

What I'd really love to have happen tomorrow (today?) is at the iPod event they mention the elimination of the 3G and the introduction of the $99 3GS 8 gig. I have a 120 gig iPod classic that takes care of business. No need for another iPod.

I'd really love a physical keyboard though...

My problem with Google Calendar is that I have multiple calendars on my account and need them all to sync...

The touchscreen on the iPhone is superior to any physical keyboard I've seen so far. Most Crackberries have tiny keys that drive me up a wall. There is an art to typing fast on the iPhone, but it's easy to master. Like PM said above, it takes about a week before you're really flying around. Also, now that texting and email can be done in landscape, it's even easier.

Anyway, I was using an iPhone before you got your Tilt, and I'm still using one today. It has gotten infinitely better since then, with the introduction of the App store, and really there's nothing else quite like it.

Get the 3GS to handle the newer generation Apps, and even if you don't use it as an iPod, the harddrive is awesome for storing photos/videos/etc. I cycle new music through mine, but it's definitely not an iPod replacement, so I never have more than 15-20 albums at a time. Mainly just the albums I want to have on hand if I forget my iPod at home, or at a party.

I should add that it comes in quite handy as a backup in case I leave my iPod with all my workout tunes at home. I can dock it at the gym or listen on my buds or whatever. Unless someone comes out with something that's a whole bunch better I'll never give up my iPhone. I've had it longer than I've had any single cell phone ever and it keeps working.

Something else to think about. With windows and android you have to be aware of the hardware you're getting. The software is going to run different on different types of phones. You're gonna have touchscreen phones that need to work with an OS and its apps, you're gonna have QWERTY phones that won't be able to run the same programs or apps as a touchscreen. With the iPhone, you don't have to worry because it's one OS and one phone.

Also, mediterranean Donkey Porn via Safari

I can't believe I forgot that in my post above.

Seriously though, Safari rocks va-jay-jay for mobile browsing.

It does. You never got stuck with "Mobile" versions of websites. It's always the fullblown version of the internet which is cool because the connection is plenty fast.
