Members Lucius
Looking for a present for my wifes 35th. She does alot of contract work for big drug companies, and she is a doula (look it up dumbass), and she has 3 day/week job with the city (marine biologist). She isn't very familiar with macs and mostly does word processing, spread sheeting in her work. Should I stick with a win7 laptop or go for a macbook pro? Looking around the 2500'ish mark. BTW, i've been asking her what she wants for her b-day for like 3 weeks now with nothing. I'm gonna hand her a wad of cash for the comedic value (which she'll have to deposit back into our account cause we poor). Cheers, Lucius EDIT: Alright going with a win7 computer. Got any decent ones from bestbuy/future shop?
Members Pincookie1
I am heavily biased, but I would never purchase a Mac product after seeing their repair costs. It's just ridiculous. YMMV

Members MahaloVision
I am heavily biased, but I would never purchase a Mac product after seeing their repair costs. It's just ridiculous. YMMV I wouldn't buy a mac without purchasing AppleCare. It's the only manufacturer's extended warranty that's worth anything. Either would work, but there's a learning curve with OS X that she wouldn't have with a Win 7 laptop. If she's working with others that are sending her spreadsheets and word doc's from Office for Windows, then she should probably stick with Windows. One of the things I found out from working for an Apple Specialist is that the word "compatibility" doesn't mean what you think it means. Yes, that includes Office 2011 and Pages. Over the long term, the Mac is going to be far easier to support.
Members MattACaster
I have a MacPro. Honestly, I spent more time in Windows 7 on it than I do in OS X. It's a nice laptop, but next time around will probably go back to a straight high-end Windows based laptop.
Members The Anomaly
Dude, if she does mostly word processing and spreadsheets, I'd keep $2000 of that $2500 back into the bank, (especially because you're poor), and buy her a sub-$500 Win 7 notebook and call it a day. Seriously, there's no reason to spend that kind of money on a computer, to do what she does. Even if they are throwaway after a couple of years (which they aren't), you could buy 5 or 6 of them before you spend $2500. She doesn't game at all, but she'll watch netflix every once in awhile (not gpu intensive). If it looks cool and professional then I'll get one. Best buy/future shop??? Reccomendations for a win7 please. Cheers, lucius

Members AdrianPOA
I own both Mac and PC. I prefer my iMac for audio production simply because of the user-friendly aspect of no extra drivers / less resource consumption that MAC OS allows for recording music. That being said, a Windows-based PC is the way to go for everything else.
Members StevePage
$2500 on a laptop and your poor? you so funny. $500 is more than enough for a decent machine.
Members Miter Gauge
I love macs but it's hard to go wrong with a decent pc especially considering the prices these days. You get a lot of computer for you money these days. Quick detour, is a Doula the same thing as a midwife?

Got any decent ones from bestbuy/future shop? That should be the answer right there. Windows was made for that stuff lol. For 2500 I'd probably look into an Alienware, Origin or Digital Storm. Might be overkill though edit: anomoly has the best answer.

Members Mavesicles
Nice (looking) machines, but not for me. I have a 2011 13" MBP that I'm trying to sell because I went back to Windows. Let's see what the new MBPs will bring to the table.

Members Lucius
So I picked up an I5 sony 15.6" 8Gig, 750Gig for $599, + wireless printer($30) + office($99) (what ever version is out now I guess). Just going to give her the rest of the money to hit the shopping mall to buy clothes since she is back to her pre-baby weight and looking fab.
