Members Terry Allan Hall
Oops, I stand corrected, it is a femur bone.Oh, then it IS from my ex-brother-in-law...thought it looked familiar!
Members spruce goose
When I thought it was a tibia, my guesses were: 1. Apatosaurus. 2. Yeti. 3. Hogzilla. Now that I know it's a femur (makes much more sense, since tibial bones are typically thinner), I will go with: 1. Apatosaurus. 2. Yeti. 3. Hogzilla. Members pharmboyjoe
It's a cow bone, and since EVERYTHING comes from China now, it's probably a Chinses cowThat's my slant
Members dhoenisch
by the by...got another Yamaga Dynamic this week with this as a nut..... yup...it`s wood. The old Harmony Stella's with the tailpiece used Ebony, or an ebony looking wood for the nut. I guess with those, it didn't matter too much anyhow.Dan

Members knockwood
by the by...got another Yamaga Dynamic this week with this as a nut..... yup...it`s wood. With a zero fret on that git, it doesn't much matter what the nut material is because its only purpose is to keep the strings lined up properly.I haven't had much contact with acoustic guitars with zero frets, and I'm curious about them. And since this thread belongs to a pro...Tim,Do you have a take on zero frets?Re. the bone, I still guess... I have no freakin' clue. Mastodon? But then it wouldn't be so white, would it? Members guitarist21
Tim,Do you have a take on zero frets? I'm very interested to hear what Tim has to say about this. I always thought that zero frets were for cheap guitar makers that couldn't bother to shape the nut properly, but I've seen zero frets on many respected makers' instruments as of late. And as far as the saddle goes, the only other things I could think of would be prehistoric beasts. Ellen

Ellen these old Yamahas fall into the latter catagory, in their day they sold for a months wages...and my No.150 classical types for nearly 2 months salary...so not cheap by any means. Maybe Yamaha knew what knockwood knows...that because of the zero fret, nut material is less important. Not sure but i do know for a 50 year old guitar is has held up very well...and sounds sublime. Perhaps respected builders today are rediscovering old knowledge.
