Just got Knopfler's new record

To be fair, it is hard to beat Shangri-la. That's a great album.

 

I may have to give that one a try.

 

I've been a little turned away from his solo stuff since I bit on "Saling to Philadelphia". That CD just didn't grab me. But still, I'm a fan of his playing and tone.

 

For his softer non DS stuff, I like this album:

Strange, I think StP is his best solo work to date.

Knopfler solo is what I had always hoped Clapton would mature into... ie, an amazing guitarist who writes amazing songs. At his best, Clapton absolutely slays Knopfler in songwriting (at least, pop songwriting), but he hasn't hit it out of the park in a while.

 

I find it really hard to listen to Knopfler solo sometimes, simply because his tone is so goddamned fantastic that it makes me as jealous as {censored} :mad::D I can't even believe the tones he gets sometimes. They don't seem human.
