  1. LoL ... the funny is strong in this thread ... pickups are just wire and magnets, guitars are just wood and strings, cars are just metal and rubber, and keyboard warrior trolls are just dicks with an ISP.
  2. ... After fiddling with the pickup height and really playing it I am starting to fall in love with it ... Glad you were able to wade through all the crap and get it sorted out!
  3. I... consider asking both to rewind the pickups that you already have ... Thats about the only point I'd disagree on. I think it might be best to either keep the originals for re-sale value or sell them outright to fund the swap. Duesenburg pickups should fetch a decent price as the only way to get them is in a new guitar.
  4. ... Is the BG P-90 humbucker size about as true to a P-90 sound your gonna get in a Humbucker sized P-90 ... With out a doubt Yes. Beyond the fact that Bryan winds a great P90 to start with, his HB sized / Pure 90 follows as close as you can get to following real P90 specs. An important part of that formula is the use of real P90 parts and a full plastic cover as opposed to other manufactures using humbucker baseplates, humbucker bobbins, and metal humbucker covers. Thats not to say the others can not sound good, they have their own thing going on, but they can lack some of that full P90 flavor.
  5. I'm guessing that if you scored it for $1500 then it is used. If so, then it could be that someone has messed with it. I'd check first to see if they are the original pickups, pots, and caps. Also you might find that adjusting the pickup and or pole piece height lower might clean / smooth / unscramble things for you.
  6. Back on subject ... Thanks for the link Frets ... been a while since I've seen that one, good stuff
  7. ...However, I've never quite gotten a handle on why (as people say) mahogany is more "resonant". If anyone would like to explain that... If I had to guess, I'd say that the more focused low mids typical of mahogany are perceived to be louder.
  8. Harder / denser woods like maple will generally have more sustain, not to be confused with resonance.
