Just kidding, Craig, I wasn't really that young
;)

John

Yeah, I remember the very first time I talked to him in '67. His band was performing at the Ambler campus of Temple Univ. In the course of conversation, he asked me if I'd seen the Pop. Electronics article on how to make a simple fuzz box, by switching in a diode in series with the guitar amp's speaker. I didn't realize that Craig had written the article, and I told him that I had tried it, and it sounded like s##t! :o :o :o His next article was a compressor project. That was a really cool effect.

I ought to do a Google search and see if he's still around.

I gotta say, he isn't the first person to ask this question :) BTW thanks Bruce for sticking up for me! You may not know this, but there's a very well-known engineer who has the same name that you do!! Interesting coincidence, eh?

Anyway, once I was at the Frankfurt show and someone from TC Electronic told me that they were sitting around one evening having dinner (probably with some alcohol thrown in, LOL) and they were wondering exactly who I was. They were mostly younger guys, and they pretty much knew that I've been around this industry for as long as they could remember, but they had no idea why I was in this industry, or my background. No one actually had an answer, I guess they just accepted on faith that I must have done something at some point in my life :)

What's funny is my career has been so checkered that different people know me for different things. Some people know me for my books and don't realize I still play live. Some people know me for my production work and don't realize I write articles. Then there were the kids coming down the escalator at the Frankfurt Messe who recognized me as the guy who played guitar standing on top of the bar at a Roxy nightclub in Cologne while...uh...never mind. But all I can say is Sonya and DJ Snax did keep most of their clothes on. Well maybe not most, but at least the really strategic ones. Given the circumstances, I'm amazed that anyone noticed the guitar player.

Exchange the word forum for industry and that's my new profile/bio or some business like that. Thanks, Craig.

Cool storys, though. :thu:

I just still can't get my head around the fact that some dude that wrote some electronics book I bought way back when just so happens to have this forum I'm lurking on like twenty years later!:D

Look, buddy, you obviously don't know who you're messing with here. This guy is BIG TIME, and you shouldn't be making light of his illustrious career in this thread.

Yeah, I'm talking to you, Andertson.

redsox3g2 is a big name on the internet - this guy is worthy of your respect. I think you owe him a big apology, Andertson.

First of all, I can't believe you've never heard of redsox3g2! Are you, like, new to the internet, or something? Let's review Mr. redsox3g2's illustrious career on the World Wide Web, since you're apparently in need of some schooling, Andertson.

redsox3g2 began his online literary movement way back in October of 2003. Can you even remember that far back, Andertson? I remember his first post quite well:

"Who the {censored} is Mixermam?"

A thing of beauty! A classic, even. Then, in 2004, he moved on to other websites and took his art to a new level. His second post was one of my all-time favorites:

"Who the {censored} is Roger Nickels?"

It doesn't get much better than that, folks. Amazingly, redsox3g2 managed to outdo himself with an exuberant series in early 2005:

"Who the {censored} is Phil O'Queefe?"
"Who the {censored} is Lee Fliertson?"
"Who the {censored} is Gus Ladoza?"

The critics raved! Finally, redsox3g2 had made it to the big time! Viewings of his threads went through the roof, and he decided to upgrade his OS. Little did we know what he was cooking up next.

In December of 2005, redsox3g2 bestowed upon us his masterpiece:

"Who the {censored} is Nursertson?"

We were all speechless. The critics couldn't even write, the were so stupified by the consummate unity of his work.

And now. Now, we have been BLESSED with redsox3g2's newest, and quite possibly greatest, creation. We must all bow in awe to this powerhouse of creative writing, this true God of Literature! And now, let us reflect upon his holy words...

"Who the {censored} is Craig Andertson?"

Who the {censored} is Bunny Knutson? And who the {censored} are all these jokers that signed up the whole damn cast on myspace? I'm guessing I got a good guess. How many incarnations of the dude do we need? That's people not even connected to the joke, I'm sure. Seriously depraved use of bandwidth, guys. Didn't your mama raise you right? Just how stupified can you get? I know, I know....shut the {censored} up, Donny!

Your idea. No credit needed. You wouldn't by any chance know where the porn links are, would ya? :D

Color me embarrassed :( I checked some of his past threads per your advice, and you're right, they are indeed masterpieces. The one on dialectical materialsm was a classic -- I had absolutely no idea it was required reading in college-level philosophy courses.

The one about monetary flow in developing countries, and how it affects trans-national trade agreements during periods of low inflation, is also quite something. Apparently former treasury secretary Robert Rubin considered it a bit of a "Bible," and credits much of the economic boom of the 90s to following redsox3g2's radical concepts regarding the possibility of a reversal of Gresham's law.

But then he threw us a literal "curve ball" with his dissertation on the aerodynamics of the...curve ball!. Apparently his passion for baseball was more than just a hobby. He actually disproved several of the theses developed by New York Mets pitcher Jay Hook, previously considered the authority on the physics of the curve ball.

Thank you, Mr. Knutson, to opening my eyes. In the immortal words of Wayne, "I'm not worthy." I only hope that redsox3g2 will accept my heartfelt apologies.
