Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted March 30, 2008 Moderators Share Posted March 30, 2008 Just in case I do feel a need to mic a cab up and share something in the practice or jam threads, what mics are out there for the "fun player"?
Members placeboemotion
used SM57? otherwise you could try this. Order, try, return if no like ... I do not know this microphone first hand but have used other samples of their house brand and found it OK.
Members Bubbluz
57's are pretty cheap to begin with..why not just get one and then you will always have it.

They are fairly rugged, fairly accurate, and fairly affordable. (Says the girl who uses a Sennheiser for her vocal mic and a cheap chinese POS on her cab...) Members Patuney
Samson has a line of moderately priced mics, but like previous posters, get a used SM57. There's are reason everyone uses them live an in the studios.
Members mrbrown49
Don't trust the mics on ebay unless you are sure they are real. Lots of fakes on the market these days.

Members streetknight
A friend of mine swears by the CAD brand mics. I'm not sure which one, but here's a couple links to dynamic mics and they're under 40 bucks http://www.performanceaudio.com/cgi/product_view.cgi?products_id=7277 http://www.performanceaudio.com/cgi/product_view.cgi?products_id=7276
Members Will Chen
+1 on on the GLS ES57. I reviewed the es58 for the last issue of my e-mag and they are good mics, an absolute steal for the price they go for.
Members OverdrivenEL34s
used Sennheiser e609 or audix I5 would be good alternatives but why not a used shure sm57 as others have suggested?
Members docjeffrey
Can't you just steal one from a church or funeral home somewhere in England? I mean, those priests don't run very fast, do they?
Members balthazarr
I have an old EV PL88H and it is a very good mic.Built like a brick and I bet they go cheap being 20+ years old.
Members 's mel gibson
Maybe this is what pawn shops are still good for but,...used mic's have been slobbered and spit on by their previous owners and well,...that's gross! Mic's are a personal thing like toothbrushes. If all you're going to do is mic your amp, fine! But sing into it? Yuk! I wouldn't want it near my face if it was used, old and grungy. I can see your point, but if you feel that strongly about it, you probably couldn't play the clubs I've played in. We always had no option but to use house mics that everyone else used. It sucked but hey, what are you gonna do right?
