Germany Banning Red Bull?

Apparently traces of the active alkaloids of cocaine were found in Red Bull. Coca Cola supposedly uses cocaine derivatives in its drinks, but not the active part that makes you jumpy, just elements that provide flavor.

So, the rumor is that Germany is going to pull Red Bull off the shelves...which I guess means that the dance scene is going to get a lot less interesting for a while :)

They banned Red Bull Cola which is Red Bull's "cola" drink.

As the most of "Cola" drinks, it has some syrups coming from the COCA plant. It was informed that some scientists found that the Coca extracts used in the Cola drink had some traces of the alcaloid cocaine is created from.

For those who are counting, according the the trace amounts found, you'd have to drink over 3,000 gallons of red Bull Cola to feel any reactions at all to the cocaine found. At 45mg of caffeine per 12 ounce can, that would also give you a deadly dose of caffeine, plus, of course, you would be drowned well before that point.

I read the same thing yesterday. The funny thing is that I just got back from Germany after spending the weekend in Berlin and most gas stations that I stopped at sold both Red Bull and Red Bull Cola. I picked up some regular Red Bull since I haven't been able to find it in Denmark.

Hmm. The country that allows hard porn on everyday television is simultaneously worried about a trace amount of alkaloids of coca plant. I just don't get it.

Although I'm conservative, I agree with the Libertarians on the issue of drugs. If people are dumb enough to poison themselves, why should we stop them?

And 20 minutes later you're down on the corner trying to buy another 3,000 gallons.
