Members dudiross
Hey harmony central guitar people! I got this ibanez fujigen rg a while back. Serial.f9800688. It has ibanez stock pickups from that time v7 etc, and some form of edge fr. I think its original.edge but not entirely sure. The problem is that I have never managed tonauccessfully identify which model of rg it is. I have had conflicting opinions firm rg470 to rg1570, and have seen the same guitar - same colour - listed in eBay etc under different names.Ibanez have had a few rg's with metalic colours over the years, but I haven't found in a catalogue the exact mettalic colour this one is. Would appreciate your expert opinions very much! https://photos.app.goo.gl/8p7fDSV0mHwQ0k943https://photos.app.goo.gl/YzM4FTs3N1lz6iOJ2https://photos.app.goo.gl/SONAzhLgMjtJiDat1https://photos.app.goo.gl/RQ7Z1YHzj2kKGNAu2https://photos.app.goo.gl/uYpbNhzbObiNYm1x2
Members RaVenCAD
An RG1570 is a Prestige model and has a Edge Pro trem. That's an RG470.
Members RaVenCAD
Here is the Wiki on your guitar: http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/RG470_(1998%E2%80%932004) You have the New Penny finish and the Lo-TRS bridge.
Members badpenguin
If in doubt, take the neck off. Ibanez "usually" but not always, has the model number on the body and the neck.
Members dudiross
Thanks guys!Just want to clarify : the new penny finish looks copper to me and my guitar is definitely gold?
Members badpenguin
Metallic finishes change color over time. And can look completely different compared to a photo of the same color. For example, I have a silverburst Paul, that has turned green. Fender's anniversary strat, the 1977 one, started life silver, turned green over the years. Don't go by the color, just pull the neck. That should tell you everything.
Members dudiross
OK will take the neck off when I get a chance to as left it at a friend as travelling for a few days. Although someone just sent me this link and told me it was the gold rush finish which was only in 98 which is the year of my guitar. http://www.ibanez.com/anniversary/expansion.php?cat_id=231&now=6 What do you think? Members DeepEnd
OK so opened it. The body is marked rg570 and the neck is marked rg550 https://photos.app.goo.gl/6aF97Z4LDl7QXBNV2 Any thoughts how this is? The Ibanez equivalent of a "partscaster"? It's possible you have the result of combining two different guitars. How it may have happened I couldn't say. It may even have shipped that way. Members badpenguin
It probably shipped that way. The 570 had so many variations over the years, and the same with the 550, that Ibanez commonly used "random" necks. The necks were identical, so they switched them over. Consider it a 570. They tended to be good ones.
Members dudiross
OK cool guys you were awesome thanks for your help. Do you thinknits worth selling this and buying a new premium, or even second hand prestige? If yes which one is more worth it?
Members badpenguin
Personally, I wasn't impressed with the Premium line. And yes, a Prestige is a nice guitar, but is it nicer then what you already have? Only you can decide that.
Members hellion_213
Looks almost identical to an RG i had, gold as well. One quick thought on the pickups - swap the magnets from the neck and the bridge. Easy swap, bar magnets. Just don't flip them. There's two little wooden spacers in there as well, and just a little bit of potting. It's almost like Ibanez mixed them up at the factory, lol. Members david5150
That's an RG470. I had one in blue color.
Members WRGKMC
If you read the thread however the OP removed the neck and found the manufacturers stamp identifies it as a 570 neck and 550 body, not a 470. Read the specs. 470 looks similar but is the low end version in that series of guitars. The 470 sold for half the cost and had low end bridge and neck compared to the 570/50 which was a higher end version.
