Phil O'Keefe
This week's Guitar Deathmatch features a trio of vaguely similarly shaped Gibsons. The Explorer was first, followed a few years later by the Firebird (both reverse and non-reverse bodied versions), with the RD being the last of the three to be released by Gibson. Any year, any variation you want can be considered, but only one of the three will win this week's Deathmatch, and as always, that will be determined by you - so vote for your favorite now! Members badpenguin
Firebird all the way! Had one, and it was the single most regrettable thing I have ever done in letting it go to make a mortgage payment when things were lean. Mine was a reverse bird by the way. Members WRGKMC
I had a 60's firebird for awhile and it was a real gem. I'm in the process of building a firebird like guitar but a new one is the next on my to buy store bought list. Mini HB's are my favorite pickups too. They have a wide range of tones between a P90 an HB which allows them to get a wide range of tones. They sound good playing with other guitarists who use HB's P90's or HB's as well. Phil O'Keefe
Wow, the Firebird is walking away with this one. I would have thought there would be at least some votes for the Explorer, and that even the RD would get a couple of votes...
Members Pine Apple Slim
As cool as Firebirds are, I gotta vote Explorer just for the comfort factor. I always fancied a Firebird until I actually played one. Not sure what an RD even looks like.
