So I just got my new Canon T4i. I ordered it with the 18-135mm STM lens. I'm just tooling around with it trying to figure it all out. BTW, the Auto setting does a great job. Now to figure all the rest of it out. I plan to order the 40mm pancake lens pretty soon, but first nee to invest in a good tripod/monopod, a sling shot case, some filters, another battery, yada yada yada.

Hey Midinut, congrats on your T4i purchase. I was considering the 40mm pancake as well, I bought the 50mm 1.8 which is shockingly good for $99. I'm now saving for the Sigma 30mm f1.4

We have three just like that, that drop by everyday. Two at once is the most we get to see, but you can tell who is who... They seem to be short legged and persian. I have never seen such gental cats before. Never pull a nail near you yet they are not so friendly to the local birds...

                    • That RX1 looks to be a belter! A bit pricey, but probably worth it. I'll stick with my X100 for the time being =o]

These were shot with the WCL-X100 adapter attached.

I am pretty sure the lens will be fixed (UPDATE confirmed). In which case dust spots while less likely will be impossible to remove without service.

It is small for a full frame and the market has so few of that type they can charge a premium. Ironic though as SONY where really pushing affordable DSLR's. The new A99 Full Frame (semi mirror) will be more expensive than a similarly spec'd new Nikon D600... (UPDATE but not by much, the Nikon is way more than some had expected..) (UPDATE2 ''September 20''. Nikon D600 have been seen selling at a dropped in price, closer to where they were expected, so the SONY looks pricey again )

I like the look of the new Fuji X-E1. The sensor nudges ahead of the Canon 18Meg reduced frame cameras especially as ISO goes up or when fine detail is present (no artifacts) however the micro detail is broken but in a pleasing film like way. Where the Canon and others can look sharp but give errors that make the image look a tad false. The lack of low pass filter and the pixel arrangement make it possible for the Fuji 16Meg sensor to shoot above its weight.. The Pro 1 version had slow AF which they are improving, but this new Fuji is said to be very quick from the first release. The newer lenses on the way will be quicker too. They have also dropped the hybrib view finder and are using a new high def EVF which is said to be the best yet.

The Fuji is a dream camera, it resolves the issues of Bayer Matrix but does not pick up the high ISO colour issue that afflict the Foveon (now Sigma X3) sensor.... Can you imagine a full frame Fuji. That would be stunning. If they never do one they are missing a trick as they would lead the market... Huge cost challenge though to bring out a range of lenses to suit, so maybe they will focus on the pro/am market for these really practical new MILCs...

I don't care much for Dynamic range tests as they do not give real world proof of benefit to images, but what I see in the fuji is very good shadow and highlight detail. It is not surprising that an old Film company has made the best looking digital sensor!

The Nikon D800E is a fine detail stunner (give or take Moire etc) but at the end of the day usability and overall look is important. The Fuji's will be a pragmatic chioce for many and the D800's the ultimate bragging tool others

The new SONY has a leaf shutter lens (almost silent shutter action) which will allow flash synch at all shutter speeds if they have taken advantage of it. They seem to have released many new products with a new ISO standard flash shoe (the old custom Minolta only shoe has gone at last). That means people may be able to also use their own flash guns too.

Being small, black and almost silent on a easy to use classic shooting angle, makes it very stealthy. 24Meg sensor should allow some cropping to at least 50mm equivalent without much loss of detail too...

Image stabilization and 60FPS HD Movie mode, sounds very useful and 35mm lens is also a useful shooting angle for the film look.

The lens can shoot close range too. If you costed in any high quality prime for for a DSLR it would not leave much money to buy a body...

Just sensor cleaning the only unknown. Otherwise I can see this being a very popular camera.

No need to agonize over which lens to take if traveling light
