Members CME
FWIW I'd check out John Sayers forums. There is a ton of info there, plus several book recommendations for your own reading. There's room mode calculators, monitor placement calculators, and all kinds of other useful info.
Members UstadKhanAli
If they're broadband, sticking them in any corner of the room (wall meets wall, wall meets ceiling) is never a bad way to go, generally speaking. Far more to it than that, but really, that's never a bad way to go if they're broadband.

Phil O'Keefe
1 foot by 1 foot square? How thick are they - 2"? If so, they're going to be decent at absorbing mids and highs, but won't do much for the low frequencies. We can help you with some DIY bass traps for your room corners (as Ken suggested) and as far as placement of the foam, can you give us the dimensions of the room please? Also, how were you planning on attaching the foam to the walls?
Moderators Lee Knight Posted June 18, 2010 Moderators Share Posted June 18, 2010 Yes to what everybody else said... Then, kill your first refections. Learn the mirror trick. It'll require a friend and a mirror. Those old 1x1 mirror tiles from the 70's are perfect but... whatever. Now sit in your chair and get your slave/friend to move the mirror flat against the wall and look for when you can see the speakers in the mirror.. That's a reflection. First place. Behind the speakers. If she (your helper's a she isn't she?) holds that little mirror against your front wall next to the speaker you're going to see the speaker in that refection, right? Put foam there. But make this one easy, just do behind the speakers. Say, a 2x2 foot area. Each speaker. That should get it. Maybe more. Side walls. Look for that speaker in the refection and do the same. Ceiling above your seat. Do the same. Back wall, same. Everybody's going to tell you about diffusion and all on the back wall but really, in a room that size, just kill that slap coming off it. That should get you started.
