It's the logical extension of unboxing videos - after the uncasing, the playing, and the next unboxing/uncasing.

How many of Ye Olde HCEG Gang are still here?
aliensporebomb replied to GilmourD's topic in Electric Guitars
Greetings. I live, apparently. -
You might ask PRS what they think and see what they say.

{censored} that relic b.s. If it's not new and spotless it's utterly useless. Get that crap out out of here. Burn it with fire. -
OT: How do you all feel about these "holograms" on stage now?
aliensporebomb replied to Kuz929's topic in Electric Guitars
Oh you have to know right now somewhere there's a "megaband" with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Elvis, Levon Helm, Jaco Pastorius, and Vince Welnick with special guest Jerry Garcia being "rendered" somewhere for a big unveiling. You just know it. There's too much money NOT to do it. Not that I agree with it but..... -
What should I trade my Schecter C1 for?
aliensporebomb replied to PigWings_v2.0's topic in Electric Guitars
EMGs without the fat boost and mid scooper do tend to be a bit personality-less. With them though they kick butt. -
Just so you can see how red this thing is. At a live show just before starting:

no... wish it was! I spend a lot of my time illustrating. You seriously should do a graphic novel, just that image alone is very evocative of an unfolding story. I'd love to see more.

For me? Music is a huge one but I'm also a cyclist. I've got a road racing bike, a dual boinger MTB, a recumbent and a commuter. I wish I could ride more but it seems that things conspire to stop that being a major part of things. I also do a lot of computer related things since that's my day job. Music also covers a very broad swath of listening, playing, recording, mixing etc.

NDG: My latest FrankenFloyd SuperStrat >> pics
aliensporebomb replied to Mazi Bee's topic in Electric Guitars
Sorry but I love Floyd equipped strats. It's a keeper. -
I started on an Austin Les Paul copy but my first real electric was a Gibson L6-S custom that I bought brand new with hardshell Protector case in 9/2/81. I sold that guitar in 1982 for something else. Kind of wish I'd kept the Gibson.

I love the neck on my SL2 - it's a bit thicker than my shreddiest guitar in my collection and the ebony fretboard allows for a nice percussive snap to any solo, the note-to-note definition is very bright and clear. It's just about the perfect neck in terms of balance to "too fat/too thin". It's "just right". The frets are medium jumbos so they're not gigantic but not little thin fretless wonder frets either.
-
Two octave range, compound radius fretboards, this kind of neck joint: That kind of thing made for a guitar designed to go to outer space.

So Angus Young just plays straight into his Marshalls?
aliensporebomb replied to EADGBE's topic in Electric Guitars
lolz sry guys. this wasnt his normal rig though. Mesa Boogie studio preamp. I've got one of those and there is a setting that sounds rather like a AC/DC type sound. Interesting. -
Eddie Van Halen. Why do you love him? Why do you hate him?
aliensporebomb replied to DaveAronow's topic in Electric Guitars
Don't hate Eddie. I find it sad that chemical dependency derailed him for a while and his health issues and family issues and band issues totally overshadowed the music. The video of him on youtube drunk at NAMM demoing the $25,000 frankenstein reissues was one of the saddest things I've seen in the last ten years. I hope he straightens out someday. -
My old 1989 Model 4: I replaced the stock electronics with EMG S / S / 81 + Fat Boost I replaced the lousy pot metal Jackson bridge with an OFR. Before that it had a wonderful neck but lousy reliability culminating with the bridge pickup shorting out onstage during a gig. AWFUL. After it was my #1 for over ten years. It started having problems again and I traded it on a Jackson Soloist in 1998 and that one gets a lot of play time:
-
These are the Kent Armstrong pickups in my Soloist: The bridge pickup has a bright fendery tone, for a humbucker it has body but the upper frequency contour is really interesting. The neck pickup produces a surprisingly authentic jazz tone with the tone rolled down, with it rolled up it's a a warm nice tone with clear edges.
-
The PAF and bridge humbucker in my Jackson Soloist are excellent pickups. When I first got the guitar my standard procedure was to swap things for EMGs or something else but they were so good I've kept them.
