  1. great music bahahaha!!!!!Yeah - music is a black or white thing. If you don't like something it sucks. Post some of your brilliant tunes then...
  2. He totally should have given one word answers to everything. Would have been nice if he'd smashed his guitar for the camera too. Actually, he should have doused himself in gas and lit a match. Why you hate him so much? Bandwagon hatred?
  3. I never said don't enjoy his music. this has got nothing to do with his playing. Im just saying hes a narcissistic douchebag is all. And some of you are totally missing the point. Its not a sig model! Its not about that. I dont care who has a sig model. Its just the way he talks about this one guitar. He had a RELIC Strat made in 2004 and he talks about it like its the {censored}ing holy grail. Like just put it up there next to Pages '59 LP, or Django Reinhardts acoustic or some {censored}. And he pretends its not a relic, like he didnt want it to look like some old legendary guitar, like Lenny, or Rory Gallagher's Strat . And if you don't like these kinds of threads you dont have to participate. Well he's a better guitarist than Page, Clapton, and Gallgher (RIP), so he should be able to call the shots.
  4. I think many people miss the sarcasm with him. He's a funny guy and I don't think he takes himself as seriously as many think he does. I think much of the stuff like sticking the guitar in the freezer and getting the finish stripped off is just him goofing around. Probably his way of trolling all of the internet bedroom playing haters.
  5. I don't think that this forum has any personality per se. At least not when it is left to regulars.Translation - I don't fit here, so the regulars that have made this place what it currently is need to be replaced by people that share my specific definition of what this forum should be. Try going into a biker hangout and tell them that they're doing it all wrong and that they should spend more time riding and less time talking and drinking beer. You'll quickly get the point that the "problem" is yours.
  6. I think this forum has a certain "flavour" that has been pretty consistent over the last decade. The edgy stuff seems to go in cycles and may be related to the fact that the world economy is so screwed at the moment, who knows... It's not a place for internet newbs, or people that get offended easily, or generally soft people. I like it here and I think the mods have done an excellent jobs maintaining order while not trying to turn this place into Barney's Playhouse. I play a LOT of guitar and I've never understood the "shut up and play your guitar" attitude that some have. If I was playing my guitar right now I wouldn't be on the forum. With the amount of time in the day it is possible to do both AND have a life to boot!!! I can play and sing, but playing and posting is a bridge too far for me. I don't come here to listen to other people's music, I come here to discuss.
  7. The treble bleed mod can get you jangle with humbuckers. With humbuckers I use a .001uF capacitor on the bridge volume pot. The neck pickup I'll use .022uF or the .001uF depending on what I feel like at the time. The 001uf cap doesn't cut the highs so much when you adjust the volume down. Set some dirt on your amp and roll back the volume on the guitar. Lowering the volume cuts and cleans up the lows leaving the dirt on the highs. It also adds a bit of a compression effect. It's certainly worth trying before changing out the pickups. Cheap and easy to undo. Winner!! That's awesome advice no matter what pups.
  8. Tom Anderson HC1- in the neck and HC1+ in the bridge. Amazing combination.
  9. lower action makes bending more difficult, not easier.Only if the frets are low as well. A guitar with low action and jumbo SS frets bends like butter. Edit: Not sure if I've ever bent butter, but I think it would feel like my Anderson.
  10. Sounds like 9.5 is the way to go. I've used them and went back to 10s, but I have really strong hands and no trouble bending even with 10.5 or 11. I just like the sound of the 10s best. Don't listen to meatheads that think you need to use piano wire to be a serious guitarist.
  11. I just don't get the reluctance. People are hung up on the "low stage volume" comment, when what it actually means is that everyone can hear each other in a nice balanced way. It also means that the singers don't have to to scream to hear themselves over the guitar amps and the drummer. If you're a rock band and like to feel the music you can crank the monitors to get that. There's no down side when done right, but it takes practice. A good amp simulator like an Axe-FX (or an iso cab for your tube amps) is the way to go and it's awesome to hear your guitar as part of the mix that the crowd hears.
  12. Yep - just get an AxeFX and be done with it.
  13. The construction of an acoustic guitar accounts for 98% of the available tone. The rest is the materials and the player.
  14. ...the sound of one person laughing is such a lonely sound.
  15. Yamaha FG180 - All lam Yamaha FG450SA - Solid Top, lam back and sides Cort CJCE Custom Jumbo - All solid That's a pretty equal blend. The Cort gets all the love these days though.
  16. The way I look at it, every moment that I get to play guitar is precious. So I want to make each one as satisfying as possible. If I can afford to have a top luthier build an incredibly resonant solid wood guitar then that's what I'm going to do. I know not everyone can do that, so there are cheaper alternatives that are also great guitars. I just don't get the fascination with comparing them to the high end stuff.
  17. I've played some awesome sounding laminate spruce top guitars. In my opinion the sound is usually a bit lacking in high end... but very powerful and strong like a mahogany topped guitar. Some obvious advantages to a lam top acoustic (besides price) is that they don't crack or damage as easily and don't change with humidty as easily. The sound is also more stable over time. I have a friend in Jamaica who works in the ghettos of Kingston and I assembled an all plywood guitar for her because of the climate and her situation. BTW it's starting to become fashionable for high end luthiers to "double top" their acoustics...which is basically a type of plywood top. I've never played one but it's becoming known: $4,100 for a plywood top guitar? I'm totally in favour of using multiple layers of wood for a top if there's a specific design reason for doing it and the woods used in the laminate are high quality. I've heard a guitar with that honeycomb laminate and it sounded astounding.
  18. I've been building guitars for over 35 years, i know utter nonsense when I hear it.Amen brother.
  19. I'd always get a solid top, back and sides on an acoustic, but until you've been playing for at least a couple of years the wood isn't going to be the weak link and you may not be able to tell the difference. Once you've gotten the hang of it and can coax every bit of goodness out of a given guitar I think you'll be happy that you got a solid wood guitar.
