If you were to choose: Duesenberg or Gretsch?

I'm saving up for one of this. If you were in my position and have come up with the money to get one, which would you buy?

I like the sound and the design of both, although I haven't had the chance to play the Gretsch. I can only buy one and I love both, but I only have one chance, and I wanna make the right decision.

I really like both of them. They both have the same shape, two pickups, same killer looks. The only thing that I like about the Dues more than the Penguin is that it's a semi hollow, there's a whammy, and made in Germany(I maybe wrong). I know that make won't make a difference but being a semi hollow does. As for the Penguin, I like that it has more controls than the Dues, that's it.

Thanks for the awesome replies, I wanna hear some reviews to those who have played these guitars.

Out of those two, I'd go for the Dues. I'd rather have a Mike Campbell model though. They are

I'd never even heard of Duesenberg before, was in downtown Tokyo in a guitar store, saw this wall of Duesenbergs.. One in particular in surf green (I'ma total sucker for SG), I figured they were just going to be some kind of 'style over substance' kind of guitar (you know these, ooh, its alla bout retrro looks, who cares about playability).

Damn, these things are nice, its in the details.. beautifully finished, all their own hardware which is nickel plated and super premium quality.. everything about them is no compromise..

I love mine.. I sold my Fender thin skin 54 Strat.. never played it after I got the Doozy, it just sounds sublime..

But hey.. maybe not your thing?

I had a Gretsch electromatic for a while, really nice little guitar, I liked it so much I thought I'd pony up for the more expensive 'proper' gretsch.. I gotta say I wasn't too impressed, MIJ, thick finish.. I don't know about the penguin though, maybe they are different

Let's see. You want to make the right decision...

And you ask a bunch of turd burglars on the Internetz?

And you haven't even played one of 'em?

I suggest you find a Gretsch and play it before you go any further. both are fine guitars... but only you can decide which is the right one.

now. i've got turds to burgle.

That Penguin is a classic. Originals are rare and very expensive ($80,000+). A guitar like that makes a statement, something like "I'm an individual and not a lemming or whatever."

Duesenbergs are terrific guitars, though. I'd love to have one of their funky art deco things.
