Members New Trail
IMO not a real Fender, not even a real made in Japan Fender. It looks like someone put fake decals on it. Either that or it's the most primitive MIJ Fender ever!
Members solderjunkie
Rough body, but killer neck and multi-ply nut! It looks like a pretty awful re-spray, but you could overlook it if it is a serious player. It has a very unusual look... maybe someone else will be more helpful as to it's origins. Members newbuilder
That is a strato caster. Bad decal job...looks like a cool old neck though.

Members Nananine
You lost me at "Made BY Japan." Who are you to question the hard work an ENTIRE island nation put into this SINGLE GUITAR?

Members aliensporebomb
If it's a fake, it's still intriguing.

Members Tone Deaf
That's hilarious! Why the hell would anyone go to the trouble of building a fake Japanese strat? If you're gonna build a fake, why wouldn't you build a fake MIA? Not that I condone fakes of any kind.
Members hecticone
Because a lot of the japaneese strats were better guitars than the americans at that time.
Members Saturn
That is a fake. Wrong serial, wrong head stock, wrong pick guard.......Just all around wrong. But hay if it plays it's a good conversation piece. Here is my MIJ for comparison.
Members guitarman
That looks like my Hondo MIJ stratocaster. It has the same exact tuners along with the same flimsy single ply pickguard but it's a real player. The action is unbelievably low and the neck is fast. Members cratz2
As has been determined, definitely not a Fender... Looks Hondo-ish. But a good player is a good player. Play it! The general MO with the lower end Japanese stuff is good wood, good fretwork, sometimes cheesy electronics. I have tuners that look EXACTLY like that on two Korean strats... they work, but I don't like them. Unless you are ecstatic about it, on a tight budget, I'd replace the tuners with GFS and probably get one of their $40 loaded pickguards. And it's hard to tell from the pics, but if the saddles are pot metal rather than solid block steel, I'd replace them as well. Maybe oil the fretboard, polish the frets with steel wool, slap on new strings and see how she plays over the next couple weeks. Dare I ask... how much was she? Members flummox
Yep, that's worth about $75.
Members StevenJM
i think everyones heard of MIJ fenders, but not too many MBJ guitars. If you paid a ton of money for it, i'd call him back or get the police involved for selling you a counterfit guitar. but if you didn't pay a lot and it plays nice, then sand the fake cheesy looking decal (or sharpie marker) off and play that thing. That nut looks sweet.
Members zenbu
never seen a nut like that on any FJ, but those can be changed. Tuners like those I see on low end models with many brand names but never on a Japanese Fender. Also never saw a FJ serial that wasn`t preceded by a letter. Why would anybody fake a Japanese Fender?...look around, see how much some models are selling for these days, same goes for some other older MIJs, prices are getting` crazy on certain models...thats why. Members mloker
Dare I ask... how much was she? $60.
Members itkindaworks
$60. If it plays well it's probably worth what you paid, but like others have said, that's a knockoff for sure.
