Members Kellanium
It's basically a HW1 with Texas Special pickups and a Poly finish. Still, i wouldn't pass one up if it were offered to me.
Members scott944
Won't you need a lefty? Saw you on the cover of "Guitar Aficionado" - nice LP!

Different pickups, different frets, different finish. I guess they are both telecasters you are correct. I personally hate the frets and finish on the highway ones. I personally hate the frets and finish on the highway ones. Actually they have the same Frets, HWY1s had Jumbos too. Even has the same greasebucket tone circuit as the HWY1s. Its essentially a HWY1 with poly finish and TX specials
Members Yogi_Sizzle
Too bad they are not finished in nitro.... Just buy a HWY1 and put TX specials in it
Members WarmMachineHead
Fender only uses nitro for like the most expensive stuff, so don't expect a cheap american tele to be finished in nitro. HW1's aren't really nitro, if you will throw that. These look nice for the $799 they will go for, but I expect at least the same quality over the MIM Classic series if they want the same money, because I think the classic series are a lot of guitar. Members Yogi_Sizzle
HW1's aren't really nitro, if you will throw that. All Fender guitars since the early-mid 60s have had a non-nitro undercoat called fullerplast under the nitro, so the highway one is no less nitro than say a '64-65 Stratocaster
Members foppy
Also it would be nice if there were more colors to choose from.

Members sxyryan
"...cheap american tele..."Ha, here's a new saying I never thought I would hear...... Lol +1 I'd like to play one before I ordered one. The price is nice, but I have zero issues with MIM's and these seems to have almost the exact same specs minus the pups. Members blueballoon
Great idea from Fender, I'm sure the guitars will play/sound just fine. They also have SSS & HSS Strats coming. Am.Specials might kill Hwy 1 sales, though. I smell a replacement feeler.

I bet these would be easier to flog on craigslist when you are done with them than say a classic 50's or baja.
Members yz250f49
Just buy a HWY1 and put TX specials in it So I already have almost the same thing cept for the finish. Nashville Tele. Bought used (new condition w/HSC) for $350.
Members DonK
Looks exactly like the Classic Vibe Tele I've been considering.
Members John_McEnroe
Whoever said the frets are the same on the HWY 1s and this new one... you are right, I was sure when I checked it out that they were different. I can't stand the HWY 1 frets so that basically kills this for me. Total drag. I want a white standard american tele... I can't believe they don't make one. Members Symmetry2170
Looks like a nice tele to me! I agree, it does look nice. I think it carries all the looks of a HWY1, minus the new finishes on the special. Still, as others have said, I wouldn't pass one up if I found a good deal or it was given to me. Members akapuli
It should be called the 'Nothing Special' telecaster.
