Members nuke_diver
Thanks to this board I have been introduced to Rory Gallagher whom I believe I heard before (some of the stuff sounds familiar) but was not that knowledgable about. My loss, now I need to get some of this great guitarist music. What CD's are considered essential listening? Thanks

Members vintage clubber
great stuff! I really like Rory Gallagher. My first intro to him was actually on a Jerry Lee Lewis double LP called the Complete London Sessions released in the early '70s. He did the slide work on "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On for this recording: Here are my Rory Gallagher essentials: Irish Tour Against the Grain Calling Card Tattoo

Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted February 9, 2010 Moderators Share Posted February 9, 2010 Most people neglect to pickup some Taste when shopping for Rory, some of his best work was with his band Besides Irish Tour, Big Guns is an excellent collection

Members Minnie The Moocher
"Irish tour '74" was my introduction to Rory, back in the late seventies, and no turning back since - he's in my top 3 forever. Now, he was obviously an amazing electric AND acoustic guitar player (that's not so usual), but he was also a good singer (not the greatest but with such a warm and passionate voice - you recognize him within a few seconds). And also liked to play mandolin. And harmonica. And less known, he was a pretty good self-taught sax player (Coltrane was one of his idols): ... and he was only 22 back then!
