Will a 6V6 Amp Take A 6F6 Tube And Live?

Nope. 6F6. Got hold of some major old time toobz. The closest fit to what I uses is the 6F6. Looks just like a 6V6 but I haven't checked the base plate.

Out of an old radio.

6F6GT is what I have. All glass bottle.

Same with the others.

Looking around the net, it looks like it will work.

If nothing else, I scored a couple of old tubes.

The speakers may be useful, too.

Go ahead and try them.

Just make sure your standing in a puddle of water when you plug them in.

Old radios are cool man but seriously, watch out. You know what you need to get? A THD amp. You can plug almost anything into those suckers without a problem. The only issue is that they are so much fun to experiment with, you'll soon have at least three times what you spent on the amp, invested in pre amp and power tubes.

Good NOS 6V6's are plentiful and not all that expensive, why would you even want to bother trying this substitution?

fun. curiosity. because it's there. :idk:

Because I got hold of a couple of these tubes.

Sounds like they will work but only plate voltages are low enough. Gets into a lot of stuff that's beyond me, so I'm not gonna do it.

Don't really want to risk my amp for a maybe.

Now that sounds reassuring.

Well, it came with the caveat that it really depends on the circuit in the particular amp. You don't wanna slam the tube with too much plate voltage and kill it.

Depends on the amp.

The 6F6GT draw more current than a 6V6GT, if your PT can't supply the extra current, you risk blowing it. So, I wouldn't run it in many vitnage/old 6V6GT amps.

It looks like the 6F6GT can handle about 50VDC less plate voltage that the 6V6GT. So, I wouldn't use a 6F6GT in a Deluxe Reverb, or any other amp that is already pushing a 6V6GT really hard.
