Members JSynthGuitarMan
Anyhow, I was down at GC today, and in the used section I saw something that caught my eye. An Epiphone '66 SG around the price I was looking for it. So, I was pretty sure I was going to come back to get it. Then all of a sudden a quick glance yields another gem. An Epiphone SG Custom. Both of the guitars are at the same exact price, $250. ......... How do you decide? or Hot guitar vs Hot guitar? Cool guitar vs Cool guitar? How? [P.S. I am aware that the Custom is a better deal, but I really want both. What's your pick?]
Members animalwithin
I'd go for the first. I love gold hardware and would normally pick the custom but three of the same humbuckers stacked that close just looks weird.
Members RaVenCAD
The custom, cuz I hate the big SG pickguard.

Members photon9
The custom, cuz I hate the big SG pickguard. '66, because I love SG pickguard and hate the Custom pickguard... and I hate 3-humbucker guitars.

Members steve_man
The 66 I had was nice, but it's neck could be a little flexible for my tastes...I'd get the Custom!
Members ilikeguitar90
I know it sounds cliche, but seriously, just play them both and get the one you think sounds and plays better. FWIW, I was looking at those epiphone customs at one point solely due to the fact that I saw Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys playing an Ibanez SG that looked just like it and I thought it looked like an awesome guitar. I played one in store and was very disappointed. Didn't have that SG 'bite' or aggressiveness to my ears and sounded muddy and dull. But hey, maybe I played a dud and YMMV. My point is, try them. Members D Carroll
Custom. I'd cut the wire from the middle pup though...

Members csm
The custom, cuz I hate the big SG pickguard. What he said. Plus I'd add a matching gold Bigsby.
Members vintage clubber
I'm partial to the '66 style, hence my worn cherry modded SG...
Members JSynthGuitarMan
1. I played both of them and I liked them both. 2. I love the full-face pickguard, but for the very reason many of you don't like the custom, I like the 3 pickups. Now you see why this is so difficult? And I looked at the poll and it's 50/50. That definitely makes this a lot easier.... s

Members DaveGrima
The Custom is worth more, plus Glen Buxton from Alice Coooper played one, so Id get that.

Members GAS Man
Easier and cheaper to mod/upgrade the p'ups on the '66, but OTOH, I do like the looks of the Customs.

Members Nathaniel.
I was thinking about getting the Custom for awhile. Never did, heard the middle humbucker can get in the way. It's definitely a sexy guitar but I don't know how sexy it would be with a hole in the middle of it.
Members BB123
Really? If you're asking if Jimi really played one, he did. There were clips of him on the Dick Cavett show playing one, but a company took them down with copyrights..
Members reverberlayed
I don't normally like gold or three humbucker guitars, but the custom is really nice looking. I'd get that.
