Members cdawg
different. typically top tighter than reso. but with my floor, the opposite, for some reason.
Members BeakerArk
reso tighter than batter on all the toms, vice versa for the bass drum and snare. Batter gives ya feel. Reso gives ya tone.
Members Carminemw
batter slightly higher but a different pitch all together...My pitch comes from the reso and the oscillation scoop comes from the batter. I have a little downward scoop on all toms
Members RumStik
On toms, batter & reso are equal weight and tension. Kick drum also has equal weights, but the batter is considerably tighter than the reso, which is JAF, (just above flappy). On snares, the snare side is generally higher tension, but the degree of difference, along with head combination, snare tension, tunings/detunings, etc. vary widely across a range of shells, conditions, and desired textures. Members 1001gear
Drum sound has a lot to do with context - arrangement/orchestration/sonorities/average playing dynamics - this last one - where, when, how hard you hit etc... might be the most critical for most drummers' tuning vs toan. So far I've stuck with low and equal top/bottom. You hit, go boom, happy.
Members cearleywine
Reso's often a tad tighter but close to equal.
Members Johnny Ostinato
Reso's a little tighter than batter on everything.
Members race81
toms and snare...batter a speck above the reso's............never thought of it, but I tune the bass the exact opposite, batter speck looser than the reso.
Members Gremson
I tune my toms even on both sides, but kick and snare are tighter on the reso side from the batter.
