SVT Classic and 8x10 cab. Sounded as good as ever, got the guys at the shop to take the back off and it looked clean inside. Now whether I can justify the cost...

It's not justifiable. Vietnamese labor is cheaper. Loud Technologies should have reduced the price for you, but they'd rather keep the extra profit above and beyond what they were making here in America.:poke:

theyre just not worth the price theyre asking for them... these days, with that price you can get a used Sunn head... a GK... an Ashdown... i dont know, lots of them...

but if you really like Ampeg, go for it!

A Sunn, a GK or an Ashdown will not sound like an Ampeg. Your last statement sums it up.

IMO, it's better to get them SVTs used. And they're not hard to find used.

:idk:

Depending where you live, used ones can go pretty quickly so jump on 'em if you see 'em. I have one of each. An older one (1979) and a new one. The new ones have some nice features the older ones don't have like a direct out, master volume, and tube bias lights for home biasing. New ones also have all new tubes. I wouldn't try to steer someone away from either new or used.

Don't you live in Iceland? I wouldn't be surprised.

Anyway, Ashdown shifted production of their ABM stuff to China, but dropped the price accordingly. They now charge crazy money for their Klystron stuff though.

It was pretty sneaky of Ampeg to not even mention anything about the shift to 'Nam on their website, though.

Yeh I noticed the ABM stuff go down in price. My gear is all UK made - but I got good deals on the head & cab. Having emailed Ashdown quite a few times, the diff between the old UK-made ABM stuff and the new Klystron head is really superficial. Mostly cosmetic tbh.

The cabs now have different drivers, tho, and weigh much less.
