Members vanlatte
Bernard Cornwell has some good books, the Sharpe series is historical fiction during the Civil war era. "The Last Kingdom" is about a kick ass viking.
Members 78pbass
I want to second Vonnegut if you like a little twisted thinking. Great stuff, but left of center. Start with Breakfast of Champions Also, Catch-22 is exceptional, especially if you like MASH the movie (not the TV show, but somewhat). If you like 'Good cop with a propensity to venture to the other side" Any James Lee Burke Robicheaux novel. I started with Cadillac Jukebox. For Naval/Sub novels, I love Patrick Robinson and Michael DiMercurio. Patrick Robinson's USS Seawolf and DiMercurio's Phoenix Sub Zero rank highest all of these are my opinions. feel free to {censored} off.

Members jasper383
Non-fiction: Freakonomics or any of the Malcolm Gladwell books. Fiction: William Gibson. Start with his first and work your way forward. +1 The Gladwell books, The Tipping Point and Blink are both excellent. With all these recommendations, B-Bottom now can have his eyes glaze over without having to go to the book store.
