The Dexter books are all good (well, the first 2 are. I haven't gotten the 3rd yet).

If you want good "long reads", try:

Stephen King's Dark Tower Series (7 books)

Harry Potter Series (Also 7 books, I'm on the last one now and have enjoyed them all...)

"Get in the van" by Henry Rollins. {censored}ing cool read about when Punk was Punk.

Dan

I like the Rollins stuff, but there are long stretches in all of his books that are just paraniod ranting.

I'm reading some Hunter S. Thompson at the moment. I'd reccommend it. I've read the Great Shark Hunt and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas... Currently reading Hells Anglels.

I'm surprised 1984 makes so many folks' lists. I found the character so alienating (almost as much as he feels alienated). He seemed more like a vehicle for the ideas, rather than somebody I could ever know. Of course, that's essential to the flavor of the book---but also why it's never been on a perennial cycle.

The Great Shark Hunt is excellent but more for those who dig Hunter in general.

Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72, though, is classic.

Not a whole lot of, "weee I'm doing drugs weeee" and a whole lot of interesting political commentary.

...off the top of my head, haven't read anythang new in a while.

The Book by Alan Watts....deep, a must read if you're into spiritual stuff.

48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene...lotsa great little stories and lessons, a good pick it up for 10 minutes here and there book.

I'll pick Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk....entertaining, thought provoking

and The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein...moving.
