We get bank holidays off L.A. has its good places and its bad places like most any other city. They've finally gotten better with public transportation but it still needs a lot more work. As for driving, yeah, it sucks. The main thing is to learn which freeways just blow for commuting. 405 South in the morning? That's suicidal. North is great. 10 & 60 West are the same story. Getting around from my uncle's place meant using the Ventura freeway and then whatever it is that goes down to Westwood and Universal Studios. You have to be there for the regular 40'ish hours, though For me, there were days where I pulled 70+ hours and worked just about every damn bit of them I was averaging a bit over 60 hours a week for July.
