Members wesg
What do you play? I once I had to learn a whole pile of originals in just a few days. Some of these had really screwed up chord progressions, too. Like, "oh, why would I bother to use the same sequence of chords twice in the same song?" I got out a 3" roll of masking tape and plastered a piece on my upper keyboard that was about four octaves wide. I wrote out the whole G-D gig. Nobody knew the difference. Members MickeyKeys
Option 3- It's worse to not practice enough personally, and either need the music stand *or* mess up the song. To me that is the largest and most problematic issue with bandmates- their simple laziness when it comes to doing their homework. THIS. We just learned a bunch of new Top 40 songs, and all of them have the same chords (practically) just turned around, so it's hard to remember it all. I taped my notes to the stage so nobody in the crowd even knew I had them.

Members Sillypeoples
Yeah, just throw the set list on the floor, that's how the pros do it....that said, playing a song well, trumps Bermuda shorts, sandals, Hawaiian shirts, and music stands. Kids bitching that Dad is in a Bermuda Short band knocking out blues songs with a music stand is usually answered with 'So why don't you come up here and show me how it's done?' ...and the kid goes back to his thrash metal sausagefest in the garage, followed by some video games, then spanking it to on line porn before he passes out. Members mstreck
I don't think that's really a fair answer. There are plenty of circumstances where an individual musician might have to play a song live before they get the chance to fully commit it to memory and feel 100% "ready". That was asking to clarify the context of the OP...
Members GCDEF
Music stands are for these people. You'd think after playing the same {censored} for 400 years they'd have it memorized by now... They don't. Orchestras usually only rehearse a piece of music a couple of times before they perform it. When they do get a chance to practice a lot, they don't need music.
Members OldGuitarPlayer
Oh really? I wouldn't say that for every orchestra. Even the drummer has a music stand. I could play the drums to this and I am a guitar player!!!
Members caeman
Those orchestra folks have something that many of us lack: m4d l33t sight-reading skillz. They have multi-page tunes to read and play, while keeping any eye on the conductor. An orchestral setting is so not the same thing as a rock trio badly playing a Beatles cover. Members wesg
m4d l33t sigh-reading skillz are not always an advantage -- I find being a good reader makes it hard for me to memorize stuff, and makes it easy to forget repertoire. OTOH, gimme a chart and I'm up to speed in no time.. provided I can have a music stand on stage, LOL. These days I am trying to skip learning from a chart entirely. Making my own charts from YouTube helps a lot!. Speaking of Beatles, I have a book of Beatles scores. Every time I read a song I learn something new about it. And thanks for posting those Korean guys. They're good. And I like Rocky.

Orchestras typically don't rehearse the same piece a whole lot, and that's why they have music in front of them.
