Members samal50
I read Prince's "When Doves Cry" didn't have a bass line... I think he just wants a generic way to add bass to his music.
Members samal50
I'm not sure what root note is but I think it's something like plucking the bass line to ride along with the melody of the song?

Moderators daddymack Posted July 29, 2017 Moderators Share Posted July 29, 2017 Okay, if you don't know what the 'root note' is, we are likely wasting our time trying to help you...but we were talking about the 'I', right? That is the 'root', the prime note of the key signature. and again, there is no one way to play bass that works all the time, anymore than there is one way to play drums, guitar, saxophone or glockenspiel that will work all the time... Members 1001gear
I read Prince's "When Doves Cry" didn't have a bass line... Meaning? ... Regardless, the lowest note sounding becomes the bass part so it has one even if it's not a contiguous line. What exactly did you want in the OP? Members 1001gear
He probably means the root and fifth of the chord. Change with the progression.
