Members techristian Posted April 3, 2016 Members Posted April 3, 2016 I get hundreds of requests, each day, from spammers to join my forum. I know that it must be THOUSANDS for HC. The experiment that I'm trying is this. I put a HYPERLINK in my registration agreement leading to my Kijiji ad !! So you guys at HC could do even better. When they click "register" lead them to a few advertisements before they get to sign up. If they are real musicians they won't mind. Dan
Phil O'Keefe Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 It's an interesting idea Dan, but I don't know that we'd want to make it too much harder on the legit people who are trying to sign up just to make life harder on the spammers. Is your registration process automated, or do you manually approve all your new members?
Members techristian Posted April 6, 2016 Author Members Posted April 6, 2016 I'm registered on http://www.stopforumspam.com/ . I look at a list of those who signed up... Over 250 today. Most of them are in RED. I select ALL and then unselect the FEW that aren't red. When I'm ready to let them in (after 10 days or so) I CHECK them again. If they pass a second time, they are in. I'm running a Simplemachineforum but SFS works for many forum types. Dan
Members RoadRanger Posted April 9, 2016 Members Posted April 9, 2016 I have my forum set up to require first time posters to be moderated - once I approve their first post they can post freely. That seems to catch all the spammers...
