Strat you got the monster system why not just DJ it and then you don't have to pay the drummer' date=' geetair player, keyboard player, bass player and the other guitar player named Daryl?[/quote'] I make more money DJ'ing (now I'm at $1000 starting price) but I always push my band for weddings. I make less ($400 is my share) but its just so much more fun with the full band!! Sure I can play the latest & greatest as a DJ, as a band we cover a lot of territory as well, and can play dance music between sets. And the price difference between me DJ'ing and our band playing isn't that much...

I also agree.

it's not only fun, but also a pleasure ..... we often recall the old days, each of us keeps your instrument, but, alas, our time has passed ... as we say: The fire has gone out, but the smoke still appears occasionally .....

Here's the 2014 breakdown for my band. We hit our "wedding average" of 20.

total shows: 47

weddings: 20

bars: 19

corporate event: 3

private party:4

casino: 1

For 2015 the weddings seem a touch light so far at 11 booked. It just seems like we have a few more by now, but maybe not. We'll pick up a few during the holidays and then there always seems to be 2-3 that pop up relatively last minute.

There were some office discussions about this the other day. What I cannot believe is some of the money these "huge" DJs are commanding in NY or LA. And even in weddings, people will push back about paying a band $3K but have no problem paying a DJ (one guy) $2500.00.

Makes one scratch his head.

You get push back at all price levels. I've had people stunned that our pricing is so reasonable while others, given the same price, find it unreasonably expensive. The ones that would complain about a $3,000 band likely end up with a $300 - $500 DJ.

My daughter was married last Saturday and she wanted a certain DJ to provide the music start to finish. He provided the music during the ceremony, during dinner, the father daughter dance as well as a wireless mic for speeches and the line dancing afterward into the night. It was a party to be sure and what made it that way was the professionalism of the DJ. All of his equipment looked brand new and he conducted himself as a professional. As a musician I could not see a band doing all of this. The bands around here that I have seen and heard are the just garage bands that do not know how to dress properly, start late and drink too much during the gig.

What sort of "huge" are we talking about? Guys like David Guetta and Avicii? If you have a band that can draw 3000+ people every night who'll not only pay $50+ each for admission, but also buy a bunch of expensive drinks, then you can probably get away with charging $100k/show like they do.

Russia has a lower standard of living .... in our small town' date=' far from the big cities has a price wedding karaoke singers - 250-500 dollars, live bands - about $ 1,000, DJ - 100-200 dollars[/quote']

Chuckle, if they even ask for karaoke I automatically tack on 200 and avoid the gig. Tired of baby sitting drunk people. (plus I need a video monitor). Karaoke has died around here and good riddance. 95 % of the time the bids are 200 or less and they often think that is expensive?? :(

Wedding DJ rate is 1000.00 for one system, if I have to provide a satellite system I upcharge as well depending upon need. DJ rate for all others is 100.hour. It really depends on the time and venue. The biggest factor is distance obviously travel is expensive.

Oh, I do not need a video monitor .... it's not quite the karaoke .... this concert one or two singers with the movements that have been learned previously, with the lighting, which is used in small concerts and powerful enough equipment ....

I would gladly give up such a business, if there is more demand for live music .... I love hard rock (I'm old already), but people love pop music and musicians do not like pop music
