Not preposterous just my experience in Nashville and Orlando so far. I have friends out with Major artists and they are on Venues, etc. All the clubs in Nashville have X32 and Yamaha digital boards. The Tin Roof here in Orlando has a Soundcraft digi. All the sound companies we've dealt with for corporate work so far are running digital boards. I'm sure at top levels where budget allows, Analog solutions exist but it's not anywhere I've been operating of late which leads me to believe it's rare.

It's a big world, perhaps I see a lot more of it than you do?

Nashville in general treats it's bands as an afterthought and inconvenience. I have never seen a region so steeped in the pomp of music yet their venues run like crapholes. Last time I worked in Nashville, the venue's system was a joke. I have C systems better than that, channels not working, mics beat to hell, barely enough cables, monitors with horns blown, etc. One of the local bands said all the clubs were like that, which it appeared to be true, when we walked around before the gig.

Digital consoles would be way far down the list of recommended upgrades.aybe things have changed? God I hope so.

Well, that's another horror story to add to the list of these. The last one was a singer in a a 13pc disco band who called me to ask how he could setup his x32 rack and mix all monitors (wedges only) with his ipad. Um. Casino band? House PA even. No. He had no clue even the basics of mixing.

so I'm more and more happy using the 01v96/ipad setup in the last 8 months. If I don't need an ipad then I don't use it. And stuff like total system failure doesn't happen. Sorry about the rig.

Anybody ever looked at a wi-fi spectrum scanner in a busy environment? My fiance was having some problems with her comcast-supplied wifi router, so the comcast dude came over to check things out. One of his pieces of kit was a wi-fi spectrum scanner app on his phone, which made it quickly apparent why The Mrs was having trouble. When everybody in a 15 story building is using a Comcast wireless router, you're gonna have interference problems.

For all of the previous reasons stated, I don't get the mindset of trusting something like wi-fi to a mission-critical application. I don't even understand the appeal of wanting a touch-screen interface instead of faders.

Nobody wants touch-screen faders. What this market segment wants AFAICT is 0) cheap, 1) no snake, 2) portable UI, 3) flexible, re-arrangeable UI. Do you know a better way to provide this than with a touch screen? If you do, you should be able to turn your idea into a truck load of money.

I have to agree w.r.t. WiFi BTW. I would never use a tablet solution for a mission-critical application that did not include a wired fail-safe backup. That may be my professional bias showing (I am building mission-critical applications with wire-able tablets at the moment), but I don't think so.

I have to wonder why Behringer et al aren't doing what I'm doing. My backup solution is over USB, not CAT 5. The USB part is easy. The hard part is charging the tablet while doing USB. Can't talk about the details in public, but, it's totally doable and they should be able to figure it out, too.

I've done about a half dozen shows on my Presonus RM32AI with no issues. I don't stray too far from my usual venues. I did have an issue with my Line6 mics not playing nice with the setup, but the thinking is that the receivers were too close to the router.

Thats my issue that I'll have to work out. I'll drag the beast in from the trailer and run some tests. The mixer itself runs great. I have my 24.4.2 in the trailer as a backup. It's never given me an issue in the 4 years I've owned it. I've mixed a couple hundred bands on it now via iPad, and it's been solid.

The RM32AI works with tablet computers as well. I'm thinking of picking up a Dell XPS18 to have a bigger touchscreen to work with. It can sit on top of the mixer, or out in the wild as an FOH position via WIFI.

(Edit: no Ethernet on the XPS18, might have to consider a different option)

(Edit: no Ethernet on the XPS18' date=' might have to consider a different option)[/quote']Sure does have Ethernet - but it's wireless. It has USB ports so you could use a cheap USB to 100Base-T Ethernet adapter if that's the particular flavor of Ethernet connection you want.

Presonus is promoting touch screen faders on it's full touch screen solution.

Slate Pro Audio has been designing a $$$ fully-touch screen control surface for recording & post studios and the responses I've seen from the post guys have been pretty underwhelming. One common complaint has been that you can't see the edits you're making because your finger is in the way of the screen.
