Members saktr-iyko
is it at all possible to use the ground as a speaker? has anyone does this?
Members english_bob
I don't think so. Have you seen how much a loudspeaker moves when a sound passes through it? How much power do you think it would take to get solid ground to vibrate like a paper cone?Even if you could, it would be totally impractical and likely very inconsistent. Members V
If you had a room where the floor was specially designed to vibrate that might work, but I imagine the SPL in a room like that would probably kill the occupants or at least deafen them. Ever see the mythbusters where they destroy a car by installing a giant improvised "speaker" and drive it with a car motor? What MIGHT be interesting, though, is building a grated floor which has a bunch of speakers under it.
Members Sporky McGuffin
You could slap NXT drivers onto any flat floor and get sound out. Quality may vary...

Members V
See, the thing is, though, people stand on the floor and objects sit on it, which would tend to deaden the sound of it.
