Watching Jamie Oliver's
Naked Chef
gave me an idea.

As well as the current economic crisis
:(
.

And I'd like to see the responses I get in this forum too, hence the repost.

If you had to sell of your musical equipment, particularly your guitar rig, say due to the recession, need money for something, bail.............whatever...

Basically, what would you keep? What pieces of equipment would remain that form the backbone of what you use to create music?

Or put it another way- you're doing a small gig and space is limited, both transport and on the stage. Out of all the gear you own, what would you use for that gig?

Bare essentials? Damn. Let's say one gets to keep one guitar, one amp/ cab, and a minimum of pedals. I'd keep my Les Paul, my Fender 140 with the cab, and a wah (Crybaby), fuzz (Big Muff), overdrive (Korg ToneWorks Classic OD), reverb (Holy Grail) and delay. I could get by with no modulation, no boost, and if I had to keep a pedal or two, i'd keep the fuzz and overdrive....even though I have more expensive fuzzes, i'd still take the Big Muff.

Using the economic crisis as my base for the picks, I would have to say:

GUITARS

----------

Gibson Les Paul Studio

G&L ASAT

AMPS

----------

Fender Champ

Fender DRRI

PEDALS

----------

Top Fuel

OCD

600 Dark

Pitchblack

Mr.Springgy

I wouldn't go any less then this. My music is my salvation, so it would be the last thing I would be willing to take from.

Just done this (in a different way) by moving to the other side of the world:
Guitar (all guitars left on the other side of the world) TBA
|
J-station
|
Behringer mixer with Akai Headrush in the loop

Lets me loop to my heart's content (my old drum machine is also included in the briefcase this is set up in), and I could easily plug into a PA system anywhere. Using the modeler is not ideal, but we're not talking in ideals here.

If on the other hand we were back in New Zealand, I'd say either:
strat>OD3>SCH-Z>AD99>Headrush>Amp
or
Yamaha AES620>Rat>SCH-Z>AD99>Headrush>Amp

For bass,
Ibanez ATK305>Sansamp bass driver DI>Amp

If the economy gets so bad that I have to sell off everything, I doubt there'll be anyone who can afford to buy my crap; or else I'd have to sell it cheap, and I ain't gonna do that :cop:

My essentials are the stuff that people gifted to me, stuff that has real sentimental value, or stuff that has become essential to me:

1. EHX vintage volume pedal from melx
2. EHX Big Muff Pi and LPB-2 from my wife
3. EHX PolyChorus from my mother-in-law
4. Yamaha Alto Saxophone from my parents
5. Hohner Chrometta 8 from my dad
6. Bush & Gerts Antique Upright Grand from my mom (I don't have this yet, but she says that I can have it when I get a proper house)
7. EHX Germanium OD from one of my best friends
8. My first guitar: '83 USA Fender S-3 Bullet
9. '92 Takamine Limited Edition Cedar
10. Vintage Fender 6G16 Vibroverb
11. EHX Blackfinger
12. Vintage EHX 10 Band Graphic EQ

I've been planning on doing just this, for a while...

What I'd keep...

Bogen Bandmaster clone (my BABY)
Marshall JCM900 MKIII (narrowly edging out Laney AOR)
2 Avatar 2x12's - Neo's and Hellatones (one with each)
Avatar 1x12 - Vintage 30...
heavily modified Gibson Gothic SG (I have 2, I'd keep one)
PRS McCarty or Custom Shop Les Paul... I still can't decide...

as for pedals, that's really hard...
Wylde Wah... big part of my solo tone...
Catalinbread SCOD... HUGE part of my tone...
Maxon OD-820... an other drive... but I love it too much...
TU-2... unless I sold it and picked up a Pitch Black...
delay is tricky... I use the DD-20 the most... but I love my old EHX DMM...

I'd be heartbroken but i could sell my Mesa F100. I could get rid of my RVB and dod phaser. Leaving me with Fuzzhugger Hugger>Barber LTD>DE7. For guitars, i could get rid of my strat, leaving just my sheraton.

So my depression rig: Sheraton>Hugger>LTD>DE7>Ampeg Superjet.
