I realized that Donnie Darko is probaby my favorite American coming of age film of the last 10+ years. The story is set in 1988 (the year I graduated high school), which is one of the reasons I love the film so much. But as I thought about it, the film really has more of a Nineties tone about it - very introverted and violent. So I wondered, what if it had been set in 1995 instead? They make up a bunch of stuff about time travel that you can't possibly understand unless you go tot he website and read the made up time travel book.
