Members JMR
well, since A lot of people didn't like my ideas for a new amp in the sub-1000 (which means most likely used) catagory, I decided to make a new thread and just start of with a fresh slate, yada yada yada . Tell me your suggestions with pic, links, features, price new and usual price used. I'm currently looking at these already ac30cc 212 used from a forum member http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/1542610361.html - Ampeg Reverbrocket 212 http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/1537317999.html - Laney AOR protube 50 watt plus this http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/1538782204.html used marshall VM 212 http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/1507149329.html - Marshall Artist 4203 there's also this http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/1546299901.htmlhttp://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/1546578824.html I want to get the most bang for my buck as possible because I also need new cymbals. SO tell me what you think and tell about anything you like that you find on here http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/ Sound wise, I really like old ampegs, Voxs, Oranges and some old marshalls. I've never palyed a laney. Not a fender or mesa boogie fan for the most part. I've played all of them except the laney and the artist. I want the vox ac30, but it's more expensive than the ampeg by a lot. It's mostly between the ampeg and the vox ac30, and I've played both before and liek them both a lot. But I'm trying to find out if there's any other amps I should try out before I buy one of those. I like the clean tone of Coheed and Cambria's first album and I kinda like the tone of at the drive-in's cleans on the first couple of albums. As far as drive, I kinda dig Russian Circles and Facing New York's (on the s/t) driven tones. power wise, 30 or above, but not above 60 or so. Clean headroom is pretty important, although sometimes I like a little grit to cleans. I play a large variety of stuff, but the band I'm in right now is mostly prog, post hardcore, "math" rock, that kinda stuff. check out my last.fm for what I listen to! last.fm/user/jamreu my pedals are dl4 - de7 - blackstar ht dist - big muff pi with TW - analog man mdded small stone planning on adding a micro synth to that. Members Jisatsu
What are you trying to play? Those amps are pretty different sounding. I'd go with the Laney just because I like the buttrawks.
Members CrystalLake
All those amps are completely different to one another. I think you have to find something thats going to fit your style, and not just the best bang for the buck amp.

Members dkerwood
How much power do you want/need? How much clean headroom? What kind of sound? And for that matter, why don't you just go out and actually play these amps and get the one that sounds best to you?

Members Amplifier Worship
I say get the laney, but try talk the cat down. I've got the AOR 100 and it is killer. Great cleans too, on the low input.

Members ArrMatey
the laney will not go and do what you wanna do. It's a great amp for metal but its cleans are so-so. I had one for a short time and tweaks well but I think you need something that will stack up well on the od pedals.
Members JMR
I'm leaning more to the ampeg Reverbrocket right now. Much cheaper than the ac30 and still a really nice amp that I like. I'll definitely have enough left for cymbals and some new pick ups for my toronado. Now all I need to do is sell the acoustic 104... COUGH COUGH
Members JMR
Also, there is Crxsh's Rocker 30 for 850. I haven't played a rocker 30 in a long time but I loved it when I did, and I've played a rockerverb 50 recently that I loved. Although I like the ac30 a lot, it's not as good a value as either rocker 30 plus cab or the ampeg. This is so hard, because both are great amps. I like the rocker 30 better than the ampeg when I've played it (no pedals though, in a guitar center), but I still like both and the ampeg will cost me less. I'll still have around 350 bucks for cymbals, which will be enough after I sell the cymbals I already own. Which takes pedals better? Any last minute suggestions before I make a poll about it? Thanks for your help guys, btw.
Members strtdv
How good the AOR is depends largely on whether it's a series 1 or a series 2. Avoid series 2's.

Members JMR
Man, I wish my cab would sell. I like the Rocker 30, but my issues are that the Ampegs I'm looking at http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/1542610361.htmlhttp://indianapolis.craigslist.org/msg/1554122161.html are very nice also. I've played a gemini, but it was a long time ago and I remember liking it, but not why. I do like the reverbrocker 212 a lot. The two ampegs are a better value, having more headroom and taking very well to pedals, etc. But I really like the orange gain, so I'm thinking that maybe a pedal like the Tech 21 Oxford could help me out a little with that. And I do need money for new cymbals. But even with so much leaning towards one of the ampegs (esp. the 212 R), I still kinda want that orange...I'll try out the ampegs asap when I sell the cab. It's not really an issue of sound, I like all sounds of all the amps. So, which ampeg would you prefer and why? And Would get that ampeg or the orange?
