What kind of wire to use?

22 or 24 gauge. I prefer stranded copper over solid copper. Cloth covered is nice if you are working on a vintage guitar, or if you're doing a relic or something like that. Shielded wire is great if you are dealing with noise issues, but as long as the guitar / pickup / control cavities are all properly shielded, you shouldn't really need shielded wire.
