Members BrentSP
OT kinda.......whats with the conspiracy about Jimi being murdered or some kind of planned "accidental" death? I bought a DVD of "Jimi - The Last 24 hours" and another 3 disc DVD box of "Jimi - The uncut story" that both supposed to touch on this very subject. I haven't gotten the DVDs in yet. Members mentoneman
sounds alot like this to mehas that tall narrow combo box sound, not a huge low end, and has more grit on the top end than a normal fender breakup tone.also reminds me of my friend's traynor guitarmate

Members '63-Strat
Didn't Jimi use KT66s and 6550s in his Marshalls at some point? That could give it a little more glass too, no?
Members Grrrip
I think what we are hearing is very subjective. It's a 30+ year old concert in a large hall using a certain microphone into a certain mixing desk. I mean mic placement, acoustics, so many variables that no sound can exactly be replicated twice IMO. If you could magically transport to that concert and stand right next to the speaker cabinet, you might hear something different.

Members mentoneman
still sounds like a tall narrow open back box with nice speakers and tubes and reverb to me. not saying that's what he used, but if i were trying to reproduce that sound that's where i would head. (although the stock bluesbreaker reissues sounded pretty bad to me...) sg with paf pickups ala clapton, or else find some really old single coils to toss in a strat and pay out the wazooski. Members ReneSteur
i just listened again to a few live sets. i can say his sound at Royal Albert Hall is a lot brighter, i dont really like it when he plays on the bridge with fuzz. so i just think he did set his amps up brighter or he might indeed had different tubes.my thought
