Members shreder75
someone mentioned this to me, but I just wanted to confirm is it safe to run your head at 8 ohms into a 16 ohm cab?
Members Nerine
Yep that seems like a safe mismatch to me.
Members thesplawnster
Only if you have 2 16ohm cabs. Then 8 ohms is where you want to be. I've never heard of that one, Matt
Members Nerine
Just checked, definitely safe.
Members Digital Jams
No problem, the load should always be larger than the amps output load if you have to mismatch.

Kind of attenuates some highs and makes the amp sound anemic (for lack of a better description!)
Members simbasa
I notice a bit 'softer' sound when mismatching like that. My 8 ohm Stiletto through my 16 ohm marshall cab. If your amp is a bit harsh ,fuzzy this would soften it a bit . But yea, like the other guys said it's also not as powerful sound which I don't like. Members GCDEF
Of course all the above information only applies to solid state amps. Some tube amps tolerate a mismatch, others don't. You may want to check with the manufacturer, or at least tell us what type of amp it is before accepting blanket advice.

SS, of course. Tube, probably, unless it blows something. You don't know until it happens. I wouldn't do it long term or at healthy volumes.
